If I needed someone
In celebration of George Harrison's birthday I have decided to forgo my Wednesday review and just post photos of George. I am not sure what to say about George that hasn't already been said, so I think the best way for me to honor him on his birthday is to post photos of him. Enjoy!

Julian Lennon collection
These photos were found on The Gilly tumblr blog and they are credited to the Julian Lennon collection. They are a wonderful snapshot of what it was like making the film Help!
The Beatles all wet
While making the film, Help! in the Bahamas, The Beatles started off by filming the scene where they pop up in a swimming pool. This scene was filmed 50 years ago today! The people in the background, not paying any mind to the Beatles always kill me in these photos.

Paul and Nancy dining in Vermont
I cannot say it enough: you just NEVER know where Paul and Nancy are going to show up next! Always been on your guard, because they might be eating at a restaurant near you!

The J.J. Hapgood General Store & Eatery in Peru had royalty from the music world drop by for dinner Sunday afternoon.
After spending a day on the slopes at nearby Bromley Mountain, famed musician Paul McCartney and five other people spent about an hour in the dining room enjoying a quiet meal that included margherita pizza and organic kale salad.
Restaurant owner Juliette Britton said she didn't want any hoopla to disrupt the legendary Beatle's visit, so she didn't even notify her coworkers that McCartney was a guest in their presence. Britton said McCartney was joined by his wife, Nancy Shevell, and two other couples.
"He came in around 4:30 and had a meal on their way out of town," Britton told the Burlington Free Press. "It was a very relaxed atmosphere and it worked out really well. I didn't even let my staff know at the time he was there. It was a really great experience for him, and he was able to take it all in."
Britton said that as McCartney was getting set to leave, she asked to get her picture taken with him, along with her husband (and store co-owner) Tim. McCartney gladly obliged, and the J.J. Hapgood store account later tweeted out the photo.
J.J. Hapgood General Store & Eatery, which first opened in 1827, was the longest continuously-run general store in Vermont until closing in disrepair in 2009. The Brittons then purchased the store from previous ownership and refurbished it, before reopening it 2013.

Goodbye to London!
50 years ago the Beatles embarked on their first leg of the trip in making the film, Help! First stop---the airport in London on February 22, 1965 and onto the Bahamas where it will be warm! (yeah right!)
Get the complete picture
I am not sure if I have ever seen the complete photo of this shot before. Usually you just see John and Cynthia. Cynthia looks like she is about to burst in to tears in this photo. And John seems to be acting goofy for the cameras. Paul and George and both checking out a pretty young lady and Brian Sommerville is the only one really looking at the camera!

Sigourney Weaver meet the Beatles
Much thanks to Michael for sending this story along.
Aliens actress, Sigourney Weaver talked the other night on the Jimmy Fallon show about when she saw the Beatles at the Hollywood Bowl. She said that it was in 1962, which we all know is impossible, but we can forgive her for that mistake. Most likely it was 1964 and her family had just moved to California and so, since she had made any friends, she went to the Beatles concert alone at the age of 12. After the concert, she and another girl were walking up a hill, still in awe of seeing the Beatles perform when they spot a limo coming up the road. To Sigourney's amazement, it was the Beatles' car! And John waved to her, and Paul did a head shake and Ringo waved! And afterwards she had to go home and lay down for "48 hours" because such an amazing thing happened!
She recently got a letter from the Hollywood Bowl, although I wouldn't be shocked if it was from Ron Howard's people who are putting together the Beatles live film, asked if she had seen the Beatles at the Hollywood Bowl because they had found footage of her! And low and behold....it was her! What are the chances of that??? On the Jimmy Fallon show, they showed the footage of a 12 year old Sigourney, with the hair that she wore over night in beer cans to get the perfect look that would impress John screaming out "John!" with some other Beatle fans. What fun!

Beatles Parade
It isn't every day that someone I work with posts a Beatle related photo on Facebook. But that is what happened to me this weekend when one of my co-workers from the elementary school where I teach posted this awesome photo from a 1964 Homecoming parade in Troy, Illinois. My co-worker's mom is holding the pink guitar and her aunt is the drummer. I think photos like these are so much fun and it is important for us as fans to continue to preserve them. Much thanks to Sarah Boyd for allowing me to post this on my blog!

An angry young man
John does not look like a happy guy here in this photos from July or August 1969. Most likely he is gearing up to push through the fans that had gathered around EMI that summer. I have posted this photo before, but it was much, much smaller.

Meeting John
Over at the great facebook page, John Lennon's Lost Weekend page, admin Jay Schulman shared his story and photos of when he met John on February 13, 1975. We have seen photos of this day before, of John in the big wooly winter hat. Here's Jay wonderful memories and photos, posted here with his permission.

I was laying in bed listening to Scott Muni on WNEW FM
In NYC when a very famous voice came on. It was Dr Winston o Boogie plugging his new Rock n Roll album. I got dressed warm as it was cold with some snow flurrys.
I took 2 buses and 2 trains and arrived about 4:30 at the studio at 47th st and 5 th Ave.
I went up to the studio saw John with Scott in the booth and I was asked if I worked there I told them no I didn't and was asked to wait in the lobby.
After abought 1/2 hour John came down with a young lady who I swear was May.
When John got off the elevator he took his time signing and talking with everyone.
I managed to get a picture signed and while he was signing the pen ran out so he asked if I had another. I had to borrow a pen from the person standing next to me.
I was thrilled that day as I was meeting my idol john Lennon but my hands were shaking.

That smile
This photo just make me melt. It isn't even in color and yet we know that John is wearing his "Walrus" multi-colored coat. And he just looks so cute. I am going to have to stop my professional act and go a little fan girl on you all for just a moment. EEEEEEK!
Another typical press conference

I really think it is neat that the stuffed animal the fan gave the Beatles can be seen in the background of the beauty contest winner photo. I think the Beatles received it and posed for the photos and then shoved it off to the lady in the background when the beauty queen came up for photos.

The Daily Mirror Golden Ball
50 years ago today a often overlooked and forgotten Beatles event occurred: The Daily Mirror Golden Ball. The most information I can find on this event was from a Christie's auction for a set of Beatles autographs that were from February 18, 1965 at the Golden Ball. I can't find what songs the Beatles performed, although it must have been something from their Christmas show that had ended a month previously. The only oddity that I find is that other information states that the Beatles were in recording sessions on this date. However, the newspaper and this fan have proof otherwise.
This autographed guest list is extremely interesting as it appears to document a previously unknown performance by The Beatles in February, 1965. Further research with the Daily Mirror archive has revealed that the Golden Ball was organised by the newspaper to celebrate reaching record sales of five million copies per day. The ball was held on Thursday 18th February, 1965 at the Royal Albert Hall, London and tickets went on sale for 25 shillings.
The vendor worked for the Daily Mirror in the Publicity Department at the time, and recalls that the Beatles arrived at the Royal Albert Hall to perform a couple of songs on stage with various other artists, and were invited by the Directors of the paper to have a drink in a private room following their performance, which is when she acquired their autographs.
