What's with the hats?

  1. Answer hidden at the bottom of the first picture:

“Director Dick Lester issued a decree that the group were not allowed to tan; the continuity of the film would be ruined if they did- hence the hats.” :)

Thanks for posting, never seen these before. I don't think we'll ever stop getting "new" shots of the Beatles in our lifetimes!

  2. They filmed the scenes in the Bahamas before the winter, skiing scenes. Lester and Shenson didn't want them looking tan in the winter scenes, so for the Bahamas shoot they were given hats to shield their faces from the sun.

  3. Thanks for the answers, but that wasn't what I was thinking. I was more along the lines of thinking, "what with THOSE hats?" Paul's doesn't seem to fit (much less shield his face) and Ringo's looks too big. Did they pick these out themselves? They just seem like strange looking hats---I don't know...they made me chuckle.

  4. Lol! Sara I like Paul's hat! That style seems to look good on everyone. I think it's called a Trilby hat? But it's true it probably doesn't do a great deal for shielding one's face from the sun. My guess is Paul picked it because it looked good. Ringo's hat is a disaster though. Yikes.
