The officials at a London cinema where the Beatles were playing last night got a shock just before they opened the doors to more than 3,000 teenage fans. For already inside the cinema were 23 girls-- three of them fast asleep. None of the girls had a ticket.

"How they got in? I don't know," said a commissioner. No one knew how long the girls had been inside the cinema, the Hammersmith Odeon, but they were escorted out before the show began.

The Beatles show was the last in a week long nationwide tour.

Their first house spot went with its usual din-- screaming girls standing on seats, and inaudibility. The group's performance of their latest single "Day Tripper," and "We Can Work It Out,"  and numbers from their new LP. Rubber Soul had an ecstatic reception.

One of the visitors to the show was comedian Jimmy Tarbuck, who, like the Beatles, comes from Liverpool.

Score for the first house: two rows of seats wrenched from their bases, and seventy-three cases of fainting. The second house was half an hour late in starting to allow time for the theater staff to re-bolt some of the seats which were dislodged and overturned.

Paul's Magic (London 1975)

Paul's Magic

By John Blake

London Evening News

September 18, 1975

After this concert, a lot of people are going to stop caring whether the Beatles get back together or not. For even a reformed Beatles would have trouble producing the spellbinding music that McCartney and Wings sustained for two and a half hours last night.

At last, the band has fulfilled its early promise. In the early days, McCartney seemed so desperate to prove he really could do it alone that the music suffered. But now he has proved everything he needs to and can just bounce about and sing favorites from his vast repertoire of beautiful music.

Though he says little to his adoring audience, McCartney is a master showman, and the hours of painstaking rehearsal show. But though all eyes are obviously on Paul, Wings has become very much a band, rather than just the backing group they were when they played in London two years ago.

It was a magic evening, and certainly the best rock show I have seen in London this year. I only feel sorry for John, George, and Ringo in having to try to compete with something like this.

Beatles Fly Back From Million Dollar U.S. Tour (1965)

Coventry Evening Telegraph

The Beatles arrived at London Airport at 6am today after their drama-filled dollar-spending American tour and got their usual noisy welcome. Paul McCartney said of reports of near-riots on the tour, "It was pretty rough. "

There were just smiles from the Beatles when they were asked if the tour had netted them a million dollars. Hundreds of screaming girl fans waved banners, flags, and scarves as The Beatles were ushered toward three limousines. Showers of confetti floated down from the spectators' roof of the airport. Amid the din, a strong contingent of police was on duty around the Queen's building.

The Beatles, bright as buttons after their transatlantic flight, turned and waved and smiled. It was all too much for one teenage airport waitress, clutching a camera, she was led away by a friend, sobbing, "I have seen them."

George Harrison was sporting a large red carnation. Paul wore a sober gray suit and Ringo a sky blue one.

Apple Meeting 1983

December 1, 1983 -  Dorchester Hotel

It was on this date that Paul & Linda, Ringo, George and Yoko all met at Yoko's suite at the Dorchester Hotel in London.    According to a comment on this very site, The Beatles EMI contract had expired in 1976, so they'd each had the option to sign with other labels - George and Ringo signed with new labels, but Paul stayed with EMI, but as part of the new deal, Paul negotiated an increased royalty payment for Beatles' record sales - so he was getting more than the others.

The meeting did not go well, but Paul and Linda sure look happy.  I still have never found a photograph of Ringo from this date.  But apparently he tolk a reporter who asked if the Beatles were getting back together not to be "daft."
