Friendship First

This is so cute!  I love their McCartney concerts tees.    Once again I want Paul McCartney to come to my school.   Although my school district has been getting bad press lately, so maybe once all that dies down he will want to visit.   I think too much about this stuff.

Dhani Harrison is a pirate

This fan met Dhani Harrison before his band played Lollapslooza in 2009.   She asked Dhani to sign the George Harrison Cd, "Brainwashed."   Dhani was kind to sign it and asked her to hold his beer!  That is a pen in his mouth in the top photo (not a ciggie as it might look like at first glance.)   I have no idea why he is wearing a pirate hat and patch, but it somehow works for him, don't you think?

Artist meets Ringo!

I found a neat story here about a woman that makes 3D bull sculptures and ended up catching Ringo's attention. So she made a special piece of art for Ringo and was able to present it to me. I love how Barbra is in the background!

My afternoon with Ringo Starr

I found this article and pictures at this blog about someone who met Ringo in 2009! Reading this just makes me want to meet Ringo even more than I already wanted to meet Ringo!

I definitely feel blessed every day; some days more than others. Yesterday was one of the more-blessed days. In fact, spending the afternoon with Ringo Starr goes down as one of the highlights of my life so far.

We met Starr at The Grammy Museum in Los Angeles for an interview as part of a larger campaign LP33.tv is doing to support the release of his new album, Y Not. As soon as the video interview piece is edited, I’ll post it here.

I wasn’t nervous to meet Starr at all. . . until he arrived. I’ve spent time with some of the biggest musicians in the world. I’ve been to recording sessions in their home studios and have had dinner with them in their second homes, but it doesn’t get bigger than The Beatles, period. And while I have seen Paul McCartney perform live on several occasions, I’d yet to meet one of The Beatles. That fact didn’t really hit me until Ringo walked through the door.

He’s exceptionally charming, clever, and funny. He has that dry, intelligent sense of humor that could cause you to miss the joke if you’re not paying close attention. That’s my kind of humor. In fact, the most challenging part of the video shoot was to not-laugh out loud while we were recording. At one point, Starr said something so funny that we couldn’t hold it in any longer, and we all burst into laughter.

We talked about his forthcoming album, new collaborations, The Beatles Rock Band, and something he wishes he’d never said. That’s all I can tell you about what happened. . . for now. The rest will be revealed by LP33.tv soon.

That said, I can tell you what didn’t happen. I didn’t tell Starr that The Beatles is the only band I listened to during my adolescence that didn’t give my parents a headache. I didn’t tell Starr that, instead of those cheesy baby tunes albums most parents play for their kids, my aunt and uncle solely played The Beatles for my three cousins when they were growing up. I didn’t mention that, due to this early Beatles immersion, my little cousin named her first dog (a large German Shepherd) Ringo. I didn’t challenge him to a game of The Beatles Rock Band although I would have liked to.

White Feather Julian

If you are planning a trip to Liverpool before the end of this year, one thing you must check out (if you haven't already seen it) is the White Feather John Lennon exhibit. It is just awesome. It is especially cool if you are a John Lennon freak, but my mom (Ringo lover) also enjoyed it. I was looking for some photos online of the White Feather exhibit and saw this fan photo of a Beatle fan with Julian at the opening of the exhibit last year. I would love to meet Julian some day. His song "Too Late for Goodbyes" was quite popular at the roller rink when I was a kid.

Tina the Tabla player meets Ringo Starr

Here is the blog that Tina Sugandh posted about her playing the tabla at Ringo's house for his current album, Y Not. While from the post and youtube video, I gather that Tina is a celebrity in her own right, she still seemed thrilled to meet Ringo and thus is no doubt a fan! I love the fact that Ringo is wearing a Doors t-shirt!

I'm not sure how exactly to say this casually, so I must just resort to using
all caps-I JUST WENT TO RINGO STARR'S HOUSE AND PLAYED TABLA AND SANG IN HINDI
ON HIS ALBUM AND ALSO GAVE HIM A LITTLE TABLA TUTORIAL!!!
Seriously, how
crazy is that?? I've met lots of celebrities and I really must say, "Starr" is
the perfect name for him. He somehow manages to be humble and sweet and warm,
but also just inadvertently commands attention with his and infectious
enthusiasm and his seriously witty one-liners. He is the KING of one-liners.
Everyone in the room was just cracking up the whole time. He's SO loveable a
person, and it really is NOT because of the fact that he is a legend, but just
because he is a truly beautiful person.

He gave me a white "peace and
love" band (which I have still have not taken off). The greatest thing about him
giving out these bracelets is that he really and truly wants to spread peace and
love throughout the world. For example, he got a bit annoyed at one point when
we had to dump out half of a small water bottle since we didn't know whose it
was. He said "just this much water could save a little kid's life". How sweet is
that?!

I wish all celebs could be like Ringo-gracious, kind, incredibly
entertaining, humble, able to focus on the truly important things in life, etc.
What a truly wonderful experience...
