Inside the hottest party of the year
Quite a party was thrown on September 26, 2019! Inside Abbey Road Studios anyone who was important in the world of the Beatles was inside to hear the new release of Abbey Road. Family, friends and of course Paul, Ringo and Olivia were all there to celebrate 50 years of an amazing album.

A tribute to Geoff Emerick
I am sure that you a were just as shocked as I was to learn of the death of the Beatles / Wings engineer, Geoff Emerick yesterday. I think it was such a shock because he was younger than Paul or Ringo (73) and Geoff had been in the public eye for the past year, making his way around the Beatles conventions and other Beatles events. He had many events on the calendar for the rest of this year and into 2019. I had just heard him speak at the 2018 Fest for Beatle Fans in Chicago less than two months ago, and he didn't appear to be frail or sickly. If nothing else, when someone passes away as Geoff does, it gives us all a chance to remember how sudden our lives can end and to make the most of it while we are here. From all of the things I have read about Geoff, it seems that he did live his life to the fullest and had a great one. May he rest in peace and his family and friends be comforted during this time of grief.
Here is the review I wrote on his book Here There and Everywhere

At Abbey Road

| The photo was taken by Richard Porter |
This photo of Paul leaving Abbey Road Studios was from 1995 when Paul was often seen coming in and out for the Anthology CD project. It was taken by Beatles tour guide, Richard Porter, who luckily saw Paul during this time. Notice that Paul is wearing my favorite shoe, Birkenstocks!
You never know when Paul might be in London and show up! Even without Paul, Richard's Beatles tours are something you must do if you are in London. Check out his site http://www.beatlesinlondon.com/ And thanks to Richard for allowing me to share this great photo.

Last week I shared some photos from Nigel Machin who was able to meet Paul McCartney in 1978. These are the photos he took the next day. In regards to the 2nd photo, Nigel said this: "McCartney was a big "Beano" fan (British children's comic) and I recall him saying that he had one delivered every week."

Over on the wonderful world of Facebook, a fan named Nigel posted some photos from when he met Paul and Linda in 1978 outside Abbey Road studios. I asked if I could share the photos with all of you, and he said "sure!" He also included some information about the photos.
I was in London in 1978 and as a rock fan I went to look at Abbey Road and there was about 6 people waiting at the gate. They said McCartney is recording and I hung around for a while and he turned up and was very happy to chat. We didn't give him any hassle and he said to us if we could turn up the next day he would try to get us into Abbey Road. More innocent times then - John's execution finished off a lot of this fan interaction. Paul was not that popular in 1978 either - The Beatles and 60s stuff was considered dated.....
His photos and stories also come with a search for his old Beatles pen pal from Germany who was with him on this trip to London.
I met Suzanne Wilms because she wrote her name and address on the Apple Saville Road door asking for penfriends. She was 15 and I was 17 - i wrote down the name and address and we corresponded (she lived in Dusseldorf West Germany) and we eventually me about 2 months later in London. We visited Abbey Road and as luck would have it Paul was recording, in those days he would often invite fans to his house for a "cup of tea" (his London residence is only 5 mins walk from Abbey Road). Random great times - not seen Suzanne for nearly 40 years!
Nigel would love to get in contact with Suzanne Wilms again. He knows that she took many photos on the two days that they met Paul in 1978 that he would love to see. He also would like to reconnect with his old pal. So if you know Suzanne Wilms from Germany who is a Beatles fan in her 50's, please let me know so I can pass along the information. I know it is a long shot, but crazier things have happened thanks to this blog!

Stop messing about with John's microphone!
This photo is from October 25, 1970 (or very near then) when John was recording the overdubs of the sitar (look right behind John) during Yoko's "Greenfield Morning" sessions. Much thanks to
Chip Madinger and Scott Raile who supplied the date and information! Please buy their book, Lennonology (which is going to be AWESOME) when it is out later this year.

After the crossing
This photo of Abbey Road was taken on September 25, 1969 a little over a month after the Beatles took their famous walk across the street. Things look pretty quiet, don't they?
