Chipmunks on Parade

How many of you had the Chipmunks Beatles album growing up?    In the background of this Chipmunks float you can see another Beatles float behind it.   What a parade!

Beatles Parade

It isn't every day that someone I work with posts a Beatle related photo on Facebook.   But that is what happened to me this weekend when one of my co-workers from the elementary school where I teach posted this awesome photo from a 1964 Homecoming parade in Troy, Illinois.    My co-worker's mom is holding the pink guitar and her aunt is the drummer.   I think photos like these are so much fun and it is important for us as fans to continue to preserve them.  Much thanks to Sarah Boyd for allowing me to post this on my blog!

Maharishi on parade

Sometimes I just come across some strange items.    Here is something interesting...it appears that the Maharishi Mahesh Yogi was in a parade in July 1968 someone in America.  Maybe it was a 4th of July parade?    But there he is, just four months after half of the Beatles left him.   I would have gone out and seen Maharishi just to see the guy that the Beatles were with in India.

He just seems so out of place in a parade.   And he is holding a sign with his name on it.   I wonder what those people on the side are thinking?

The Chipmunks sing the Beatles

I have always thought the Chipmunks were a pretty cute cartoon.  I used to watch it when I was a kid in the 1980's although I did enjoy the repeats of the older version (the Alvin Show) as well.  The new movies are alright, but not as cute as the original.

In 1964, the Beatles outsold the Chipmunk's Christmas song as the fast selling song of all time.   Because of this Ross Bagdasarian (who went by the stage name of Dave Seville) decided to go to London and talk with the Beatles about making a Chipmunk Beatles album.   Surprisingly, he got their blessing and the album was made and went to sell millions of copies.   (According to the Chipmunk's official website.  I would love to hear more about this).

This is a Rose Bowl parade float celebrating that album.   I think it is super cute, because Simon is my favorite Chipmunk.   Although I do say that I always thought it was sort of goofy that Dave was the 4th Beatle....

Rose Bowl Parade 1965

All of the Beatle-themed floats in parades in the 1960's make me laugh.   Although at the same time I think they are pretty awesome and I would have been totally excited to have seen one.

Parade time!

Interesting photo I must say.  Appears to be a Beatles float in a parade in the 1960's.  Does anyone happen to know anything about this?
