More lost footage has been found!?!

Someone named David Chandler must not have been aware that Apple and a million others have been asking and asking if anyone had any video footage of the Beatles on the BBC in 1966 for the last 30 years.    Well, David, it is better late than never!    He recorded 92 seconds of the Beatles performing "Paperback Writer" on his 8mm hand-cranked camera back in 1966. The footage sat in his attic until the recent discovery of earlier this year of someone else that had a short snippet of this footage. That jogged David's memory and sure enough -- he has footage too.

This is all really exciting! And it makes me once again wonder -- who else is sitting on rare Beatles footage and photographs and has forgotten about it all these years?

Excited about 10 seconds

Things Beatle fans get excited about that the rest of the world would never quite understand.  We have always believed that the 1966 BBC Top of the Pops Beatles performance of  Paperback Writer and Rain had been lost forever.    Sure we held out hope that it might appear someday, but we didn't hold our breath.

10 glorious silent seconds of the performance has been discovered in Mexico and show today.  I have no clue how it was found or who had it all these years.   I just hope there is more to be discovered.  The quick clip shows mostly Paul while they are miming "Paperback Writer."     The good news is that at least there are tons and tons of photographs from the performance to look at.

Beatles on Top of the Pops

50 years ago, on June 16, 1966 the Beatles mimed the songs Paperback Writer and Rain on live television on the show Top of the Pops.     Like many shows from the 1960's this performance was not saved, and was lost or taped over.    So the Beatles 1966 Top of the Pop performance has remained on the list of "Holy Grail" videos fans have been hoping to see.    Surely someone out there has some sort of a copy of this performance.   Even a fan that held up a 8mm home movie camera to the television for a few seconds would be a treat.   While there isn't any moving photos of the this performance there is a ton of photographs of both the rehearsal and the performance, so at least we have that!
