Ringo at the VMAs

 

September 9, 1992 -  MTV held the Video Music Awards on this date in 1992.   I remember watching it because there was a big to-do about Axel Rose and Kurt Cobain getting into it backstage.   Since  I was a Nirvana fan, I had tuned in to see them and to also see Pearl Jam.    I am certain that I saw Ringo and David Spade do this skit but I just can't recall what it was about. 

First date with Paul

 

September 4, 2007 -

Paul went out on a date with model Elle Macpherson 15 years ago today.   He was being honored at the GQ Man of Year, and she was his date.   Now I have had several first dates over the past year, and they are always a little awkward.   I can't even begin to imagine what it must have been like to have your first date with Paul McCartney at a big awards banquet where he is the guest of honor.   As far as I know, there wasn't a 2nd date, and Paul started to date Nancy just two months later.

I bought these negatives about a year ago.   For some reason I always thought they were later in the 1970s, but come to find out they were taken 50 years ago today.

The Beatles are given more awards (including some Beatle doll things) on February 16, 1965.   George Martin seemed to have tried to have some fun with the photos.

Paul, Dick and John

Paul and John pose with Dick James---one of those strange characters in the Beatles' story.   He seems to be presenting them with a song writing award.  This photo was taken the same day as these photos---the awards might even have something to do with Fabulous magazine.

Beatles NME awards 1965

50 years ago---April 11, 1965, the Beatles won the NME awards and performed at the concert.   This was the first time the world got to see the Beatles new suits.   These would become known as the "Shea" suits, but really they first wore them a 4 months earlier.
