A 15-year-old Mexborourgh girl's dream was realized on Sunday when she met Britain's top pop group, The Beatles, and had her photograph taken with drummer Ringo Starr, whom she voted Beatle Number One.
Kay Corey of 83 Hirstgate Mexborough entered an essay competition sponsored by a local evening paper and wrote 300 words on "If I were an MP." She was one of six winners chosen out of hundreds of entrants. Her prize was a visit to the Thank Your Lucky Stars program, and her parents, Mr. And Mrs. R Corey, saw her on their television set.
After the program, she and the other five girls went to meet the Beatles behind the scenes and were talking to them. Commented Kay," They were all very nice, but I thought Ringo was the nicest to talk to."
The group; George Harrison, John Jennon [sic], Paul McCartney, and Ringo Starr signed autographs and had photographs taken with their guests. Kay told a South Yorkshire Times reporter, "I think they are great. It was the first time I had seen them live, and I would like to see them again."
Kay a fifth-form student at Mexborough Grammar School, said she will try to get the photographs as soon as she can.
Kay Cory may have met the group but I don't think she is in these photos. The woman on the end next to Ringo is Mrs Yvette Jones one of six winners from a Birmingham Mail & Despatch competition.
ReplyDeleteInteresting that so many different contestants from different places got to meet the Beatles. There was a small photograph of Kay printed in the paper with this article that I thought looked like who you are saying is Yvette Jones. But then it wasn't a very good picture and the two ladies have similar hairstyles.
