Remembering the "Quiet One"

I am sure that I have posted this photo before, but it is my favorite George photo

I didn't want November to end without posting something to remember George Harrison.   Every year I find it harder and harder to believe so much time has gone by without George.    For the past few weeks, I have been really enjoying George's music.   As I never hide from anyone, George is not my favorite Beatle, but I do enjoy his guitar playing and his music.  As a matter of fact, when I was in 5th grade my favorite song was "I got my  mind set on you."   And I bought the cassette single of "When we were Fab" although I am not even sure at that time if I understood it was a Beatles connection song.  This is one of my favorite George quotes and I think it fits perfectly with the theme of this blog"

"I'd like to think that all the old Beatle fans have grown up and they've got married and they've all got kids and they're all more responsible, but they still have a space in their hearts for us."

  1. thanks for remembering dear George - he was my favorite even to the end; the snaps you always post of him are wonderful; I miss him and will forever love "I need you"

  2. I always liked that quote of George's! I remember being surprised by it! Wow, George really cares that we still have space in our hearts for them! (we sure do!).

He's still here, he's as vivid as ever, nothing could kill that guy.....and now he's as free as a bird.....what a crappy decade he missed, I'm happy he was spared, one thing's for sure, we would have had a decade of grumpy, withering pronouncements about this, that or the other thing. On the other hand, look how T.M. has taken off in the last decade! He would have loved it!

  3. When you say "George isn't my favorite Beatle," what do exactly do you mean by that? Do you not like him much as a person? Just wondering.

    1. His music has never been my favorite. I am always more likely to skip over his songs on a Beatles album than any of the other 3. I never could get into the spirituality side of him and and Indian side of things. It would annoy me when he got into that "Grumpy George" mood in interviews in the 1980's and 1990's. However, having said that.....I still LOVE George a whole lot. I would rather listen to my least favorite George song than to most anything else that is out today. And while he was grumpy, he also had this amazing humor that would make me laugh so hard. I have always said that George was my 4th favorite Beatle and unlike other people I have met, that didn't change after he passed away. But I still have so much love for him, so I hope that clears things up and doesn't sound like I am a George hater.

    2. That's fair enough. A lot of people tend to undermine his abilities as a musician simply because his music isn't to their taste, and they act like he hated fans and was a grouch 24/7 which this blog proves isn't true at all. George is misunderstood in many ways, so, I appreciate that you acknowledge his good qualities.

I can understand why you'd feel that way, but I honestly think Paul and Ringo were/are just better at hiding their grumpy sides because they're more comfortable with being famous and have happy-go-lucky personas (at least until recently). John could be awfully grumpy too.

The thing I love about George is that despite his mixed emotions and all the trauma he experienced as a Beatle, he strikes me as the Beatle who genuinely cared about his fans the most.

  4. I think that George was the best musician of the fabs - he was so generous playing with others besides the lads and enjoyed others' music too. PS> have seen Macca pretty Grumpy over the years too.

    1. George is a good musician...one of the best ever. Just some of his songs I personally am not crazy about. And you are right...Paul can be a grouch and Ringo can really be a grouch. I guess George came across really grouchy to me around the time I was getting into the Beatles and that always stuck in my mind. Although again....George had the best sense of humor.

  5. Sara - you are precious and there are certainly some songs by the lads that we don't care for but we love the guys anyway! And maybe now that the 50th year is here we might get a belated release by 'the Grumpies' and WE'LL know who they are!
