All those years ago

These great photos popped up on facebook over the weekend.   They were taken during the recording of one of my favorite George Harrison solo songs, 'All those years ago."   I discovered recently by listening to the Fab 4 Free 4 all that this song is one that many fans dislike, which was shocking news to me.   But oh well.....I think it is fab.    These are amazing photographs from a difficult time for Ringo and George personally.

  1. That is news to me also! What the heck?? I choke up every time I hear that song, oh my gosh. Who are these people? And what the heck is wrong with them?

Well, whatever, these PHOTOS are fantastic!!!! Holy smokes!

  2. Agreed Mike. I do remember hearing back in the day that no one could decipher what George was saying. He kind of whips through the lyrics pretty quickly in some places, but the song as a whole was upbeat which is not what you'd expect when you consider the general mood at the time and the subject matter.

  5. All Those Years Ago” was written in 1980 for Ringo Starr. It had completely different lyrics and the basic tracks, including Ringo’s drums, were recorded in November, 1980.....weeks before the John Lennon tragedy. It was intended for Starr’s album “Can’t Fight Lightning” which morphed into “Stop And Smell The Roses”. The reason it went unadorned was due to the key being to high for RS to sing. In early 1981, Harrison dusted off the tape, re-wrote the lyrics, added more instrumentation plus Paul McCartney and voila, 3/4 of a Beatles reunion. That took place in February, 1981. So, next time you listen to the song, you can acknowledge the fact, that- while he's recording his drum parts- Ringo Starr was looking forward to his visit to NYC and meeting up with Lennon (which did happen).
