It had completely different lyrics and the basic tracks, including Ringo’s drums, were recorded in November, 1980.....weeks before the John Lennon tragedy. It was intended for Starr’s album “Can’t Fight Lightning” which morphed into “Stop And Smell The Roses”. The reason it went unadorned was due to the key being to high for RS to sing. In early 1981, Harrison dusted off the tape, re-wrote the lyrics, added more instrumentation plus Paul McCartney and voila, 3/4 of a Beatles reunion. That took place in February, 1981. So, next time you listen to the song, you can acknowledge the fact, that- while he's recording his drum parts- Ringo Starr was looking forward to his visit to NYC and meeting up with Lennon (which did happen).Gary Owenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13383813367083199964noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7108119778215437215.post-86535768875991935562015-01-24T19:54:20.776-06:002015-01-24T19:54:20.776-06:00SARA - NEVER SAW THESE BEFORE! He kind of whips through the lyrics pretty quickly in some places, but the song as a whole was upbeat which is not what you'd expect when you consider the general mood at the time and the subject matter.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7108119778215437215.post-66243273676932593372014-03-25T18:30:56.217-05:002014-03-25T18:30:56.217-05:00That is news to me also!
