This is one of those photos where I think of the guy all the way in the left hand corner in the back telling people today, "yeah back in 1976 I got my picture taken with Paul McCartney." Yeah..he did! But so did a whole lot of people. Anyone know what the occasion for this photo happened to be? Everyone sure seems happy in the photo.

Looks like Elton John just behind Paul w/ sunglasses. Balding as he was in the mid to late 70's.
ReplyDeleteIt was taken backstage at the Knebworth Fayre festival on August 21, 1976. Paul and Linda went there as guests. 10cc (who I can see in the pic) were on the bill before headliners the Stones appeared.
ReplyDeleteI was going to say it looks like Elton behind Paul. Also, second from left, bottom row, is that Clapton? And is that Pattie Boyd, not next to Clapton, but in the middle row, fifth or so from the left, the laughing girl in the dress?
ReplyDeleteAnd THEN.....all the way to the right, middle row, that looks a little like drummer Jim Gordon, who played with Clapton (and on All Things Must Past). And THEN, and I know I'm stretching here, but is that Nicky Hopkins above Paul, to the right a bit (our right), in the sunglasses, looking towards the side.
That's definitely Elton, that I'm positive about!
If you look at the guy kneeling next to Linda, right behind him, standing is Eric Stewart, then with 10cc, who collaborated with Paul on the Press to Play album

It's one of very few pics taken at the first ever Buddy Holly Week party in Sept 1976 with, as was said, Elton and members of 10cc & Roxy Music amongst others (that's Clapton, far left front row? and Pattie, standing behind Denny Laine who is two away from Eric in the front row). From a vague memory I think the place was called the Orangery in Holland Park, London. Rare pic!
