Ringo at Sunny Heights

I was super excited to have won this Ringo at Sunny Heights photograph off ebay a few weeks ago. I was excited about the photo for several years. The main reason was because Ringo photos in front of his house aren't as common as the other 3 Beatles. Another reason was that I knew I had a photograph from this same day in my files that I have shared in the past. The last reason was because Ringo is holding a Beatles Book Monthly magazine and I thought I might be able to pinpoint the date of the photos.

Sadly....my Cd-rom does not want to work anymore. I have that Cd-rom of all the original Beatles Book monthly magazines, but I cannot loot at it right now. I can tell that the magazine Ringo is holding is showing a photo of John and Paul from a Sgt. Pepper session that took place on March 3rd! Thank you zoom!

Anyway....it is always wonderful to see "new" Ringo fan photos from 1967!!

1966 fans

These are fans that are waiting to see the Beatles come off of their airplane in Chicago on August 11, 1966. I love the fact that one of the girls is holding a copy of the Revolver album. It had been released on August 5, so it was a brand new record. Little things like that totally make my day!

Hello Beatles

Where is this photo from? I know I have seen Ringo wearing that blue jacket before during a press conference. Maybe they are going to or leaving the conference? They couldn't be going on stage because they aren't wearing their stage suits....

Barb Fenick at Cavenidsh

Here is a photo that I once posted on this blog in black and white of Barb Fenick's now famous meeting with Paul and family where she got to go inside of the Cavendish home and get photos taken on the back steps. The unfortunate thing about the color version I have here is that Barb herself is half way cut out of the photo.

I think this photo was taken in Sweden in October 1963. I hate how the fans couldn't even see John. The security people really were blocking their way!

Here is a photo taken at night outside of Abbey Road Studios in London of Paul and Linda standing with (I believe) a fan in 1985! Seeing that date along with a Paul photo put the song from Band on the Run into my head....love that song!

Here is a really nice letter George sent to a fan during the time that "Please please me" really took off. It wouldn't be too much longer and it was impossible for the guys to keep up with their fan mail.

the other day I was trying to explain the plot of the movie, Help! to someone that isn't a Beatles fan. Let me tell you....it sounds like a really awful movie (Ringo is going to be sacrificed because of a ring that is stuck on his finger and he has to be painted red? Yeah....) but it makes me laugh so much!

Faking it...

Somehow the thought of Jimmy signing this photo under Ringo's photo is just wrong. But this appears to be a fake signing anyhow...

The Fest Anyone???

It is getting to be that time of year again! It is time for me to ask you all if anyone is going to the Fest For Beatle Fans in Chicago this year. Beatlefest is going to happen from August 5-7, 2011. I am super excited because they have moved it up a weekend and it doesn't conflict with the first day of school. That means that I can go all 3 days this year! Washington D.C. 1964

Tomorrow there is a Christies auction of 50 Beatles photographs taken mostly during the 1964 Washington D.C. concert. They are beautiful photos taken very close on the stage during the concert and press conference.

This photo shows the same concert from a different point of view. It is a photo taken by a fan who was sitting several rows back. While I love the photos that Chrisities is auctioning off, I still think this fan photo is very quaint and helps tell the complete story. Thank you to the fan who took it.

John signs again...

Colored photos excite me! I bet this guy is getting autographs for his daughters. But wow...on a "Meet the Beatles" album is really awesome!

Husband and wife

I often see photos of Paul and Linda standing outside with this colorful awning in the background. They are wearing different clothes in many of the photos, so they weren't taken on the same day. Where is this located? Anyone know?

George and Zac

This photo is one that I have in color, but much smaller. I scanned this black and white version from a fan magazine that was published in 1990. The caption says "George and Zac 1967." Who is Zac? The only Zac I am aware of is obviously Zac Starkey. Since you can only see the top of the kid's head, it is difficult to tell who it is! The haircut looks sort of like Susan Baker's little brother, Phillip. Of well...doesn't really matter because George is the most important person in the photo anyhow.

Little did John know about the "cherry bomb incident" that would occur later that evening on that stage. Must have really given him a fright! But yet they kept on playing...

Searching for the Sprout of a new generation girl

There are a few fans that you see in the video file footage that stand out in your mind. The girl I am going to feature in this post is no doubt one of the most well-remembered fans the press spoke to. In trying to find out information about her online, I have discovered that a lot of people remember watching this clip (most likely from the Complete Beatles VHS from the mid 1980's) and relating to this fan on some level. The question of who she is keep being asked. And I also discovered that her painting of Paul McCartney has inspired a facebook page about Beatles artwork that has been named after her work of art.

I am talking about the girl that we lovingly know only as "the Sprout of a new generation" girl. The interview with her was shot (according to the all knowing John Winn) buy AP/UPI newsreel on August 22, 1966 in New York city outside of the Warwick hotel. Most likely the Beatles were inside of the hotel giving the two press conferences for the day while a group of fans stood outside, hoping to see one of the Beatles. And there she was...with a wide headband in her hair and polka-dot dress, holding an oil painting of a cartoon Paul McCartney. Something about this girl, who appears to be 16 or 17 years old, and her artwork caught the eye of someone at UPI and they interviewed the girl with the New York accent for their cameras. The interview went like this:

Girl: And the name of it is "A Sprout of a New Generation." It show Paul McCartney coming up from the earth, like growing like a sprout. A start. A new dawn. Ya see, the Beatles are the original. They started the look...everything! And they are the greatest group out. And here if you notice he's like growing. And I like to oil paint and I'd love to present the painting to Paul. And I'd love him to have it. And I'd love to meet him because I...

Reporter: Do you tink you have any chance of meeting him?

Girl: Well...well I don't really know. It's really all luck because a lot of people meet them because they know somebody. But I would like to give Paul this and show him I'm a true fan and that you know, that I won't tear him apart. Speak to him like a decent human being. And that he's really the greatest in show business.

Reporter: It sounds like your have sort of a crush on Paul McCartney.

Girl: Yes, that's true! I love all the Beatles but Paul's my favorite!

So the question remains...who is this lovely Paul fan? Did she ever get to meet Sir McCartney? Did he see her painting? Where is she today? Has she entered oil paintings into the art contest at the Beatlefest in New Jersey? Was she at the McCartney concert 2 nights ago in New York?

People who read this blog have found a lot of interesting Beatles fans out there, so I am hoping that someone out there will know who this adorable girl is and what happened to her. So readers I am counting on you!

Almost answered fan mail

If you couldn't get a letter back from one of the actual Beatles, getting one from a Beatles family member would be the next best thing. Here we see two letters that at one time belonged to someone named "June." In my mind, June must have been a fan who sent letters and gifts to the Beatles homes. I assume that she sent Ringo and Maureen a card when Jason was born and Maureen wrote her a thank you note for it. Another time she got an response from the Beatle parent that seemed to keep up the most with the fan mail, Louise Harrison. It looks like she and some other fans stopped by Louise's home but missed her. I love how Louise tells the girls to go see Help! While I am sure June would have preferred getting mail from Ringo and George, I bet she was thrilled to get these letters from Maureen and Louise and that is why they are still around today. Liverpool auctions are going to be auctioning off these items in August I believe.

Backstage in Chicago 1966

This is a great shot of George just about to hit the stage in Chicago during the 1966 N. American Tour. How do I know it is in the Chicago show? Well I went through my 1966 tour photos and noticed that Chicago was the only time the Beatles wore those beautiful green jackets with the red silk shirt underneath. Now all I need to figure out is if they wore the red shirts during the afternoon or the evening performance....

Green Tie

Here is another great example of Paul wearing the same item of clothing on many occasions. We first see Paul wearing this funky green tie at his brother, Mike's wedding in May of 1982. He then continues to wear it in the 1980's and in 1991 during a press event for Linda's veggie burgers. You cannot call Paul McCartney a clothes horse, that is for sure!
