Go Karts (part 2)

Even though I think I know everything about what the Beatles did on every day of the band's existence, even I learn something new.   Long time pal of this blog, Bruno sent me this information regarding the Paul McCartney Go-Kart photo that I posted last night.    After the Beatles concert in Nice, France on June 30, 1965 the Fab guys did some nighttime Go-Kart racing at villeneuve -loubet.  Bruno even emailed along some newspaper clippings.       Great information!

Paul in a Tux

Our friend, Bruno, emailed me and said that he believes that this photo was taken Linda and Paul went to see the London premier of the film, Alfred the Great.   He isn't totally sure, of the event but places this photo from Feb. or March 1969.

The Fool on the Hill

Many thanks goes out to Bruno for sending along this "new" Paul McCartney photo. Bruno believes this may be a French press agency or a fan-taken photo. It was taken on November 1, 1967 at the Nice, France airport. This was after Paul had recorded the "Fool on the Hill" section for the Magical Mystery tour film.

Early Beatles photo collector

If there had been the Internet in 1964, I think Geone would have had one of the best Beatles photo blogs out there! By the fall of 1964, she had collected over 8,000 photographs of the Fab 4. Just think how much her collection grew if she had kept it up until 1970?? Wow! As I have said before, Beatle photo collecting is nothing new. These days we use the computer to save and sort our photos....back then it was magazines and scissors. Thanks to Bruno for sending me this newspaper article from the September 4, 1964 Daily Express.

Lovin' Ringo's tie!

I most likely have posted these here before, but much smaller. Thanks you Bruno for sending a larger copy of the bottom photo.

Gatwick Airport (part 2)

Before I left for Beatlefest, I posted some photos of Ringo at Gatwick airport in 1965. Bruno was kind enough to send this article about what he was doing there. Thanks Bruno!!

Early Kinfauns

Bruno sent me this photo of George outside Kinfauns before the big paint job of 1967. I have to say that my boyfriend (who is NOT a Beatles fan and knows nothing about them and thinks it is "cute" that I have a blog about them) saw this photo and said that it looked like someone took a photo of "that guy" (George) and glued it in front of his house. I am not so sure....

Diana the luckiest secretary in the world!

Several days ago I posted a really beautiful photo of George, Paul and Ringo with a pretty young girl. One of our favorite blog contributor, Bruno, emailed me this week with some information about that young girl. Her name is Diana Vero and she worked for Brian Epstein. During the summer of 1964 she toured America with The Beatles as their touring secretary! What an awesome job! Bruno sent me this article about her (which I typed up so you all can easily read it) from the August 27, 1964 issue of the Daily Express as well as a black and white photograph. Very neat. Thanks Bruno!!!!!!

The world's most envied teenager stood in the Hollywood sunshine in a sleek one piece swimsuit, ready to dive into the deep end of an ice-blue Hollywood pool.

Waiting for her in the water were John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr.

"I can't believe it," 19 year old Diana Vero told me. "I must be dreaming."

Then with a shout of "But it must be true!" she arched her back and plunged into the water to join her bosses -- The Beatles.

Brown haired Diana from Atherstone, Warwickshire works for manager Brian Epstein in the Beatles' London headquarters. Twenty-four hours before the Liverpool quartet set out on their second American tour she was told "get packed. You're coming too as touring secretary."

Diana who earns 12 pounds a week, climbed out of the pool and told me, "I'm the luckiest girl in the world. There are thousands of girls in England - in fact all over the world - who would give their right arm to be in my shoes."

"I've always been a fans of the Beatles, but I never thought I'd be touring America with them."

"It's a dream. Every morning - whether it is Las Vegas, Vancouver or Hollywood - I pinch myself to make sure I'm not still asleep."

Since the start of the tour she has had hardly any sleep. But she looks as fresh as if she had just stepped out of a beauty salon.

"It's the job that makes me glow," she said, "even though it's crazy. We're rushing form one city to another at breakneck speed, and I'm taking dictation in planes, cars and even hotel lifts."

Diana checks all arrangements for accommodations and attends to the Beatles' fan mail.

"The boys like to answer as many letters as they can and on the plane I sit next to them in turn, getting replies down as quickly as possible."

Like all good secretaries she is ready to keep her bosses clam and fight off intruders.

"Often I have to persuade the fans to let the boys get a little rest. Then they all ask me how I got my job." she said.

"I suppose that, like all secretaries, I boss my bosses a little. And mother them."

"When Paul gets a headache on the plane, I'm the one with the aspirins and the glass of water."

"He's always grateful."

"But I never get to hold his hand."

Beatles in France oooh la la!

Besides going to London and Liverpool, I am also going to be in France during my upcoming trip. Not bad for a girl who has never left North America! Bruno (who is French) must have somehow known that I am traveling to the country the Beatles performed in 1965 and sent me two photos from when the Fabs traveled to France. Hey Bruno....I might have to find you if I get stranded in France due to the volcano ash problem! :)

1967 George (take 2)

Our friend, Bruno has outdone himself yet again! I am sure you all remember that I posted this gorgeous photo of George in a beautiful jacket yesterday. Well Bruno sent me a copy today that is in vibrant color and without an watermark!! He says that it is believed to have been taken in Sept or Oct 1967. (So to put that in perspective, it was around the time that the Beatles made the Magical Mystery Tour movie...or shortly there after).

Paul in that pink jacket again

This blog wouldn't be nearly as cool if Bruno didn't send me photo from time to time. I don't ask him where he get them, but he just keeps sending amazing fan shots of the Beatles. I know that English isn't Bruno's native language, and he might not be able to read everything posted here, but I hope he can understand my honest and sincere THANK YOU BRUNO!!!

And what did Bruno send this weekend? Well it is Paul McCartney in August 1968 wearing that oh so familar pink jacket. It looks to me that he is leaving the recording studio with some type of tape box in his hand? Hmmmm......

Lost in the mix

This set of photos are just ones that were not labeled correcting on my disc and I wanted to post them before I forget about them. Thank you Bruno for sending me that last one of Paul holding the guitar.
