One sunny day in the early 70s, eleven-year-old Sallie went with her parents to a party organized by her father’s boss. The boss had also invited other friends. Sallie's attention was drawn to a man getting out of a Rolls-Royce in slippers. The girl noticed that her mum had a grim expression on her face, but Sallie thought that her mother probably didn't like the guest's slippers.
Sallie spent a wonderful afternoon. She played with the children, bathed in the pool, and rode a donkey. The man in slippers turned out to be a very nice guy, accompanying the children in their games, but little Sallie's mum watched him with her mouth open. The girl couldn't understand why her mother was shocked by the fact that someone came to the party in slippers.
After a few years, Sallie learned that the nice man in slippers was Paul McCartney. Only then did she realise she had spent the afternoon with the famous Beatle. She remembered playing with his children at the party. The party was held in Battle, a 20-minute drive from McCartney's estate in Peasmarsh. The Beatle posed for photographs. Two photographs were included in her family album, one of Sallie sitting on a donkey, with Paul standing next to her with his stepdaughter Heather, and the other of Linda, Paul embracing Sallie and other children.
