An online Beatles fan club for and about Beatle fans
2nd Wetten dass?? Performance January 23th. 1993 Germany Saarbrücken. he played 4 times in this TV Show between 1987 and 2001.
Remember this song from the 1993 tour?"I saw a monkey that was learning to choke A guy beside him gave him cigarettes to smoke And every time that monkey started to cough The bastard laughed his head off Do you know what I mean"This is the same man who wrote the lyrics to Eleanor Rigby and For No One!
really wow sensation
Paul wrote that song protesting against the cruelty of animal testing. He was in no mood to be "writing pretty". It was very personal to him. (MarkZapp)
When Paul writes "message songs" it comes across poorly. See, also, "Freedom":This is my rightA right given by GodTo live a free lifeTo live in freedomTalkin' about freedomI'm talkin' about freedomI will fight for the rightTo live in freedomAny oneTries to take it awayYou'll have to answer'Cause this is my rightI'm talkin' about freedomI'm talkin' about freedomI will fight for the rightTo live in freedomYeah ohI'm' talkin' about freedomI'm talking about freedomI will fight for the rightTo live in freedomEverybody talkin' about freedomWe're talkin' about freedomWe will fight for the rightTo live in freedomOh
My favourite Paul's band after the Beatles
The lyrics are bad - they almost unintentionally mock animal cruelty, which is sad. Paul's words of protest are better written in letters, not songs.
I agree the lyrics are bad. And Paul's long time advocacy for animal welfare and rights is one of the reasons I love him. But he has never been able to express it in song. John wrote message songs so much better. I do love Martha, My Love though. Nothing bad about a man writing a song about how much he loves his dog :).
Martha My Dear
Sorry, you're right. It is "My Love."
