In the flowers

It is interesting to me how a Beatles song can spark a specific memory and feeling but it is also true of a Beatles photograph.

I bought a very large poster version of the third photo posted here in August of 1994 when I first started going to college.    I walked over to this poster sale in the student union.  I didn't have any friends.  Really hadn't met anyone.    But I knew I wanted some posters to decorate my room and I was hoping to find some Beatles posters.    The two guys selling these posters were from Liverpool and were so excited that I loved the Beatles.   They gave me a discount on the poster.    I remember this so vividly because I was homesick and somehow talking to these guys from Liverpool made me feel happy and that things were going to be alright.    And so the Beatles in the flowers poster hung in my room throughout my college career.      The poster always made me smile.  It is a great photo of the guys and I especially thought John looked really handsome in the back there.     Sadly, after graduation, the poster was in sad shape and got ripped one last time.    Maybe I need to look for a replacement....

  2. The poster was easily available. I still have my copy too. I'm a little older than college age though (by nearly 40 years). I'm sure it's available on eBay. (MarkZapp)

  4. Sara; glad you found comfort with the poster of the lads while away - if you don't mind, how old are you now? Have noticed there's a difference in opinion comments from various age groups here.

    1. I am now 41 years old. I find that Beatle fans are Beatles fans no matter how old they are. We all seem to have the same passion for the Beatles and their music. However, the first generation fans seem to have connections with different things than the 2nd and 3rd generation fans.

    2. Think the main difference with the !st gen is that we were young and really were caught up in the Beatlemania part where we followed every part of their lives, bought all merchandise and we needed to meet them in person outside the concert area. Speaking for some of us gals, we tried to fashion ourselves to look like Pattie or Jane. It all became personal to us which was innocent and rather bonkers at the same time. Idol worship, sure. All the gens are connected with the music which is timeless.

    1. These were taken on the grounds of Old St. Pancras Church, not too far from St. Pancras train station. There were a lot of photos taken here, including the 'railings' shot seen on the inside of the Red and Blue albums. It was all part of a day-long photo session in various places in London known as the "Mad Day Out".
