Happy Crimble!

These are two original John Lennon designed Christmas Cards from 1965-1966 that I added to my Beatles collection in 2017

I wanted to take a little time to wish all of you from around the world that come here to Meet the Beatles..for Real a very happy Christmas!      I have been so blessed by this site and it brings me so much joy.   I just hope that a small part of that joy has been extended to those of you that come here.

It has been such a blessing for me to meet so many of you at Beatle conventions, my travels and other events.  It still shocks me that people from all around the globe come to this site that me -- this obese middle-age teacher at her little house in Southern Illinois works on.    It is very humbling and I am so honored that you choose to spend a little part of your day or week with me.

All of this brings me back to the reason why we are here:  The Beatles.    The Beatles have given us many gifts over the past 55 years.   Obviously the gift of music is a huge part of that gift.   But they have also given us the gift of friendship.    When those four boys in Liverpool were singing in the Cavern Club, they would have had no idea that the friendship they had with each other would allow so many people from all over the place to become friends.    Take a moment and think about the friends you have that you would not have otherwise if it weren't for the Beatles.      And take a moment and think about the experiences you have had with those people that you wouldn't have had if it weren't for the Beatles.    That special concert, trip to England, a fun time at a convention ... and I am sure the list goes on.

As fans of John, Paul, George and Ringo we are already all friends.    We have something special in common.  We believe that "All you Need is Love."    We know if you are talking about "Paul" who exactly you are talking about.    We can quote A Hard Day's Night word for word and still laugh at the jokes.   I guess you could say that us Beatle fans all live in a Yellow Submarine, but we have room for more inside.

This Christmas I want to thank you all for your gift of friendship that you have given me through Meet the Beatles...for Real.    God bless you all.

P.S.  I will be taking just a few days off from the blog for the holiday.   Don't be alarmed.

  1. Thanks for all the postings through the year!
A Beatles-related book you might be interested in from 2017 = STICKY FINGERS by Joe Hagan: a bio of Rolling Stone founder Jann Wenner. That mag ceased to be relevant for me around 1974 when it tipped its hand to celebrity journalism and surely by 1977 when it uprooted from San Francisco. But...check out the book's barnstorming opening with JL sat watching LET IT BE for the first time, in tears, unrecognised in a public cinema. (He was doing primal therapy at the time so anything could set him off, but still, powerful opener.)
Later talk of PM (who gave background interview to Hagan) upset that JL was inducted first in Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame and agreed to speak for him on condition that PM was inducted next year...then Wenner double-crossed him.
PM was inducted 4 years later, which is why he said in his speech he was sorry Linda couldn't have lived to see this, a barbed snipe at Wenner, and why his daughter came onstage wearing T-shirt that said ABOUT TIME!
My own view is Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame is part of the corporate conglomeration that made Rolling Stone mag redundant and put the music in a mausoleum with nothing meaningful to contribute to the culture, and that PM should have told them to stuff it - - not out of petulance because JL was inducted first but because the Beatles, and any decent rock group, is bigger than the Hall of Fame. It'll sure give rise to opinions, that Jann Wenner bio!

    1. Thanks for the recomendation! For some reason I thought that book about the Rolling Stones (the band) and not about the magazine and Jann Wenner (who I assumed was a woman up until about 3 years ago). I have a stack of books to read, but when that stack goes down, I will look into that one.

  2. I enjoy this site. Interesting photos. I didn't become a full-fledged Beatles fan until age 16 (1973), although the sound was in the house nine years earlier, due to my sisters' records and KXOK Radio-"The Big 630, St. Louis, Missouri"-coming from their transistors. My first Beatle recording purchase was the 8-track version of "The Red Album" from the old P.N. Hirsch store in Edwardsville, Illinois. I just finished reading Mark Lewisohn's excellent "Tune In." Merry Christmas (three hours late) and keep up the good work.
