A smile and a stripe
We have seen this girl before and the guys wearing these close. I am still not sure where it was taken, but it must have been part of the 1966 tour because of the pants John is wearing. My original thought was Alaska before the Japanese tour, but I now know that isn't right because the grey suits weren't ready yet (and that is why the Beatles are wearing the green suits at the first concert in Tokyo). So that means it is either Japan (nope), Manila (most likely not) or a stop on the 1966 American tour. I WILL figure this out!

The Beatles in Munich, 24th June 1966
ReplyDeleteThen why is John wearing pants that weren't tailored yet?
DeleteIt is not stage suit pants. John wore these same pants on 23 June 1966, when the Beatles flew from London to Munich. There are many photos around.

Hi Sara, the pants John are wearing are clearly NOT the 1966 North American tour stage suit. Look on page 251 or 255 of my book Some Fun Tonight! Volume 2 and you will see the difference.
ReplyDeleteThis picture appears in "The Beatles In Germany" by Tony Barrow. The book is not clear about who the girl is or where this was taken. But it seems to imply that she might've been someone they'd known from the early days in Hamburg.

This is Munich at their hotel - first day or second that is unknown. The story was in a German magazine on August 1st 1966 with a second pic with the hotel secretairy or hostess. The clothes the others are wearing are the sames one could see on other hotel pics.

PS
ReplyDeleteIt was the first day - June 23rd - John wore this trouser on the flight to Munich (shown also on the pics leaving London airport). It is NOT the white stripes concert gear but a private trouser as far as I see it.
