Dancing at Sibyllas

The question has been asked for many, many years:   Is Paul McCartney in this photograph?   It was taken at the opening of Sibyllas nightclub in 1966.

I found a great article about Sibyllas online.   Just don't pay attention to the Paul is Dead stuff elsewhere on the sight (unless you are into that).

  1. Surely, too short to be Paul.
Paul`s about 5`11, so those other guys would be about 6`6 looking at the photo

  2. The girl with the guy in the striped jacket does look like Jane Asher and the guy looks a little like Paul. Problem is Paul doesn't and didn't dance...at least not in a club in front of people. So I doubt that is Paul and Jane. And the other guy in the background looks too short.

    1. But if this photo was done just for publicity and was staged, would Paul have agreed to just stand there and look as if he was dancing? But you are right, the guy I keep trying to make into Paul is a bit short. But Paul did do some fancy choregraphy in in the video for Ever Present Past. I do think the girl is Jane Asher.

  3. To be fair to "Faul", he looks like he's just standing at the edge of the dance floor as the girl dances with him.

Perhaps that's Paul, watching nervously his girl dance with another guy....and is getting ready to walk over and intervene, like Fredo in the beginning of The Godfather Part 2!

  4. Paul and Jane aren't in the photo. This photo and another clearer one are posted at Getty Images website with names of these people. (They have Sibylla's name misspelled as Sybilla). Getty Images Caption: Dancers at the opening night of Sibylla's discotheque in Swallow Street, London, 22nd June 1966. Among the dancers are pop singer and manager John Gaydon, socialites Jane and Victoria Ormsby-Gore, daughters of Lord Harlech, Ingrid Bett (sic - Brett, aka Boulting) and Sibylla Edmonstone, after whom the club is named. The club is part-owned by George Harrison of The Beatles.

    1. Oh how sad to burst my little dream bubble of this being Paul and Jane. Oh well....still nice to see a photo from the opening night of the club.
