1st generation fans wanted!

I am looking for 1st generation American Beatle fans who saw the Ed Sullivan Show live on February 9, 1964 and are willing to answer a few questions.    If you aren’t a 1st generation fan but  know anyone:  such as your grandparents, parents, aunts, friends of the family, etc who saw the Beatles on Ed Sullivan, please ask them to answer these questions.
I will be compiling them for a 50th Anniversary retrospective of the Beatles coming to America on my  blog, Meet the Beatles…for Real in February 2014.
You do not have to answer all of the questions.  Just answer the ones that you are comfortable answering or pertain to you.
Please email your responses to Starshyne9@yahoo.com

  1. I saw the Beatles on all 3 Ed Sullivan shows in 1964. By the time the first show was over I had fallen in love with them.

  2. I watch the Beatles on Ed Sullivan, everyone was talking about it. I was in 3rd grade! I loved them!!! I have been a Beatle Fan ever since! I remember the adults talking about their hair!! It was so long to them. Funny now when you see how short it was. My friends and I started to buy Beatle Trading Cards, and Beatle Magizines! I got my first Beatle Album the next Christmas from my Grandmother! I loved Paul back then, as I got older it was John!! I went to a Catholic school, I wrote the Beatles in the middle of my school bag! and John, Paul, George and Ringo in the four corners of the bag. A nun picked up the bag and said who does this belong too. I raised my hand. She said why don't you put "your" name on the bag, so I will know who it belongs to! Beatles got me in big trouble :) Still love them!!

  3. Yes I saw it. I was seven. I had seen them on Jack Paar - his film clip with them in England - a couple of months earlier. I was sick and couldn't sleep so my mom let me stay up to watch them. I was so excited when they were on but my dad couldn't stand them, although my mom admitted they were "cute." I was totally addicted. My favorite was John but I loved George almost as much. That never changed. Everyone was talking about them in school the next day. The girls were in love - Paul and Ringo were the favorites - but most of the boys didn't know what to make of them. They were threatened by them!

  4. My name is John, I was 7 when I discovered them for the first time on February 9, 1964. Had never heard them until the Sullivan show. Had cousins who insisted on watching the show (though we always watched it anyway). I was lying on the floor in front of the TV. From the moment I saw them, my life was changed forever. Saw all 3 Sullivan shows, and just about everything else since then. Became a DJ because of them. Learned guitar because of them. The adults were obviously ridiculously skeptical. I don't recall school the next day. However, my 2nd grade class had a talent show later that year and 3 classmates of mine and I were the Beatles. We were invited to 'play' for other classes as well (singing and banging over the records... "She Loves You" and "I Wanna Hold Your Hand"). I was Ringo. He was my 1st favorite, though over the years all were faves at one time or another. Kind of like your kids, you can't choose one over the other. Today I would say Paul is my favorite singer/musician/recording artist, John is my idol (except for his parenting skills with Julian), George is admired greatly and Ringo is my favorite Ringo! It was the day that changed my life forever, and I wouldn't change a thing!

  6. Watching the Ed Sullivan show was always something I watched on tv. I first saw aThe Beatles a couple of months before on a film clip of the Jack Paar show & thought they were really different. But the very first time I saw them perform live on the Ed Sullivan show, it was love at first sight! I remember my parents commenting on their long hair and how silly all the girls in the audience were for screaming and carrying on. I also remember being so mesmerized, I found myself sitting on the floor as close as I could get to the tv screen. And from that moment on, I was completely besotted with The Beatles. After their final appearance on the Sullivan show, my mother told my father: "It's just a phase. She'll get over it!" And here I am 50 years later & I still haven't gotten over The Beatles! Fan for life!
