  2. Bert Shipp wasn't a deejay in Dallas. He was a field reporter for Channel 8 (WFAA), Dallas' ABC affiliate. While he was assigned by the station to attend the Beatles' Dallas press conference, he wasn't scheduled to interview them. He talked his way past a Dallas cop who was guarding their dressing room door at Memorial Auditorium and managed to get an exclusive interview with all four -- all through his own ingenuity. Bert's now in his early 80s and is still a fixture on the Dallas scene. His son Brett has been an investigative reporter for Channel 8 for many years now.

    1. That's great info! Thanks!

Do you (or Bert) still have the interview he did with them?!!

  3. Yes, the interview is commonly available for viewing. In case you're wondering how a cameraman just happened to be present there with Bert and the Beatles, here's a continuation of the story. Once Bert had infiltrated the Beatles' dressing room in Dallas, he realized he needed his cameraman in order to get the interview on tape. He excused himself from the Beatles (after getting their permission to do the interview) and ran to the room where the press conference was going to take place. His cameraman from Channel 8 was in there setting up his equipment in advance of the press conference. Bert grabbed him, told him to bring his camera and they both went back to the dressing room. Now with his cameraman present and filming, Bert did his interview. It's the only interview done by a media person in Dallas with all FOUR Beatles. It's hysterically funny as the boys make fun of Bert's Texas accent. You can see it here:

It's also found in a couple of other places on YouTube. Just look up "Beatles Dallas interview" or "Beatles Texas Interview".
