Flashback to 9-9-99, and Paul, alongside Madonna, was presenting the award for the video of the year at the MTV Video Music Awards. Paul announces the winner is "some guy named Laurence Hill."  

It was very newsworthy and one of the times Paul received negative press. I always thought that calling Lauryn Hill by the name "Laurence" was a joke that went wrong. It was sort of funny in Paul's mind, but when he said it, it was not funny and just strange.  

Do you remember this being a huge deal 25 years ago?

I guess I missed the 1992 VMA's because I sure don't remember Ringo and David Spade wearing purple together for this event.   I wonder what the joke was about Ringo's hat?
