A Day Brenda Will Never Forget (1964)

I am sorry about the terrible quality of this newspaper photograph, but it is one I don't think I've seen before.  I hope by sharing it, someone will provide a clear copy.

A Day Brenda Will Never Forget

By Peter Newman

Crewe Chronicle

March 7, 1964

Millions of British girls have pictures of the Beatles on their bedroom walls, but the photographs 14-year-old Brenda Clark will soon be putting up are rather different, for they show her posing with the famous beat group.

Brenda, who lives at 25 Merrills Avenue, Crewe, met the Beatles at Teddington near London recently when she traveled south to receive her prize in a competition arranged by the national weekly magazine "Today."

The Beatles took time off from recording a show at the ABC television studios to present Brenda with her prize, a  £250 film projector and a sound film featuring the Beatles, titled The Beatles Come to Town. The seven-minute film was shot in the Ardwick district of Manchester by the Pathe news camera teams during a Beatles concert. The film captures all the frenzy and excitement of Beatlemania and presents a fascinating commentary on the young Merseysiders and their devoted fans.

Incidentally, Brenda was accompanied on the trip to Teddington by her brother, Dave, whose namesake leads another famous beat group.
