I had never heard of this shocking story before, but I hope it is mentioned in the McCartney Legacy Vol. 2 book (I will buy it from the authors at the Fest for Beatle Fans in New Jersey in a few weeks). While the story was published in October 1980, it must have occurred on July 4, 1980, because that is the only date on which I can find a record of Paul and Wings rehearsing in Tenterden.
This 2012 blog post has more about this story. If you scroll to the bottom, you can read about Paul's part in the ordeal. It sounds horrifying!

A father today described how pop star Paul McCartney rushed to the rescue of his baby girl after a car skidded into her pram. Japanese au pair girl Hisaka Kawahara, 21, who had been pushing the pram, died later in hospital.
Cara Miller, 14 months, was knocked unconscious in her pram when it was crushed by a car outside her home. She survived after Paul and other members of his group Wings rushed to her aid.
Paul, a neighbor of Cara's father, Martin Miller, was rehearsing with his group in a concert room at Mr. Miller's home,Pugins Hall Appledore Road, Tenterden.
Mr. Miller, who publishes antique books, said it was incredible that Cara got away so lightly. "The pram was a mangled wreck. It was lucky that she was strapped in as the hood was up.
"Cara was knocked out for a short period, but she has only slight concussion and bruises. Paul lives in Peasmarsch. He is a good neighbor of ours and uses the concert hall in this old manor house for rehearsals.
"The crash happened 50 yards from our garden entrance, and our gardener, George Burris, 60, saw it and yelled for help. While I rushed to get an ambulance, Paul and his group went to the rescue with my wife, Judith. They found the baby's pram crushed under the front wheel of a car and freed Cara.
Then Paul's manager, Trevor, took Judith and Cara to the doctor by car. Our nanny, Francis Page is on holiday, and the Japanese au pair was doing her work.
