Howdy from Dallas

September 18, 1964 - Dallas, TX

The original cowboy hats the Beatles received at the airport really didn't fit them.   Good thing fan club members gave them black ones that were larger.

  1. Those white hats were presented to them by Kathleen Lingo of -- get this -- the Dallas Civic Opera. They hated those hats because they didn't like that they were white, and they didn't fit their heads properly. Paul's hat was just perched on top of his head. Stephanie Pinter and Yolanda Hernandez, co-presidents of Dallas Chapter 24 of the Official National Beatles Fan Club, told Brian Epstein in the boys' Cabana hotel room (right after they landed at Love Field) that they were going to get black Stetson cowboy hats before the concert the next evening. John overheard, picked up his white hat off a nearby table and flung it across the room. Paul told the girls that black was his favorite color, so they were really looking forward to getting those black hats. They wore them at the Pigman Ranch the day after Dallas, as seen in all those photos by Curt Gunther. But you already knew that, Sara!

    1. The Dallas Civic Opera supplied those terrible white hats? I would bet they did not leave Dallas with them. They do not fit at all!

  2. They hated those hats, not just because they didn't fit, but because they were white. When Stephanie and Yolanda told the boys they had black hats for them, they wanted them right away -- in that hotel suite just after they arrived in Dallas. But the two scheming girls deliberately did NOT bring the hats, thus giving them a second chance to see the boys and present them the hats at the venue the next evening. They did not leave Dallas with the white hats, but of course you see them wearing those black hats at the Pigman Ranch the day after the Dallas concert. And yes, the Dallas Civic Opera gave them the white hats!
