The new song

I love the new song, Now and Then.   It isn't the best song.  I personally like "Real Love" the best of the three post-Beatles era songs.  But I like the work that was done on it, especially how clear John's voice sounds.   More than the actual song itself, I love the fact that it is 2023 and we have a new Beatles song out and the world is talking about it.    But just for the record -- this has to be the worst Beatles cover ever!  Did people say that about the White album when it was first released?   I will take a plain white cover over this cover anytime.

  1. The ABSOLUTE worst cover ever. I'd rather look at the Two Virgins cover than this. The most photographed group in history and they used no photo??? The name of the group doesn't even appear on the front except for the sticker. I keep saying that this sleeve would be better suited for bands like Duran Duran or Spandau Ballet. (MarkZapp)

  5. That's actually a good question! Back then did the fans hate the White Album cover?

  6. Agreed. It's an odd choice but the song is amazing and easily tops the other two for me. I can't stop listening to it.

  8. What some people are saying about the cover is that the parallel lines on it are reminiscent of the staircase on the album covers on Please Please Me / Red & Blue album so maybe a tribute to that saying Now and Then???

  9. 30 years later, FAAB, RL, and now this new one are all uncomfortable for me to listen to sometimes. John didnt deem any of these tunes to be solid enough to work on again, or be worthy of the later Double Fantasy sessions. Maybe he thought these were all throwaways and just chucked the tapes into a cupboard, we'll never know. I get it, all of us, including myself, have a palpable desire for modern Beatles product with John included. But I wonder how would John have felt about this -- he was the penultimate artist. Sure Yoko consented to release the tapes to the others, but thats irrelevant. If the man himself was overly critical of how Strawberry Fields Forever, Help, Polythene Pam, and other classics of his turned out, I cant imagine he would be thrilled with these 3 posthumously released songs. Which are very, VERY far from being Beatle-worthy imo. Well, cue the angry replies in three two one...

    2. I agree as well. I question Yoko's motives in providing the tapes to Paul. I feel she has attempted to protect John's legacy to portray him as THE Beatle. Regardless of what people think of them, they were John's solo songs and written nearly a decade after the Beatles split up. I don't know why they should become Beatles songs just because John died tragically early at the hands of another. Ray Coleman, John's biographer, seems to have corroborated the story that John wrote 'For Paul' on the Now and Then tape for Paul to help him finish it off at some stage. I think both he and Paul expressed a wish to perhaps work with each other again. Nothing was said about George and Ringo or getting the band back together. It may have put Paul in an awkward position. I also can't help feeling Paul has been emotionally manipulated in some way. The Beatles meant everything to him, and he comes across as impressionable where they're concerned. He's been trying to process the grief and loss of his close friend and creative collaborator for over 40 years and many of his feelings appear conflicted. The media and fans haven't let him get over it. Also Peter Jackson just needs to stop now.

    3. Well said. Mixed feelings about this whole situation and the results, the motivations and manipulation of everyone, including the people who don't want to rain on the B4 parade due to a lifelong love for them. Can't help but feel sad that *this* is the last B4 song we'll ever hear.

  10. THINK THE BEATLES WILL ALWAYS BE A #1 HIT BECAUSE WE WANT IT TO BE REGARDLESS THAT N&T ISN'T THAT GOOD IMO. IT'S CERTAINLY GREAT TO HEAR JOHN AGAIN BUT PAUL'S AGED VOICE NOT SO MUCH ON IT. WE WILL TREASURE THEIR MEMORY. AGAIN, THIS IS IMO SO PLZ NO HATE COMMENTS.
