  1. The man on the right in this photo looks like Fela Kuti (1938–1997), one of the absolutely greatest Nigerian musicians. Fela was based in Lagos, made a load of great recordings, and suffered harassment from corrupt Nigerian political leaders. Everyone should check out his music. I had no idea that he and McCartney ever met. What is the source of this photograph? Please provide source info, thanks.

    1. I am sorry to say that I don't know where I got this photo. It was in my virtual file of Paul and Linda in Lagos.

    3. I believe that Paul mentions in his McCartney Interview album from 1980 that he went to see him in concert while they were recording in Africa. He might have met him on this occasion. (MarkZapp)

  2. It's well documented that Fela met Paul in Lagos. At first he was concerned that Paul was in Africa to "steal" African music, but Paul visited Fela at his club and was able to persuade him that this was not the case. Sara also posted another photo of them together recently. This photo was probably taken in EMI's Lagos studio while Paul was recording basic tracks for the "Band On The Run" album (as evidenced by the poster behind them for Wings "Mary Had A Little Lamb" single). Paul and Linda may have also visited Fela's studio as well. This photo could have been taken by Denny Laine or anyone at the studio that day.
