HS still crosses the line from time to time, but he has mellowed out considerably over the past 10 years. Whether thats pressure from the corporate suits, or getting older and wiser, who knows. Whether you like him or not, it cant be denied that he has become a great interviewer, and is typically very thoroughly prepared on his subjects. I wince seeing the first interviews he did with Paul in the 2000's. Paul looked at times like he wanted to beat the daylights out of him, and who could blame him.
Been a Howard Stern fan for almost 30 years! I always wondered how a Stern interview with George and John would be like. Howard was a massive TM fan (loves the Maharishi). He basically interviewed almost anyone that was in the inner circle. McCartney, Starr, Cynthia, May, Billy Preston, Julian, Sean, tried to get Yoko in the late 80s. There is even an audio of the morning of December 9th which was pretty interesting. I do have a recording from '75 of Stern playing Just Because (then a brand new release).
John wouldve loved Stern's anti-authoritarianism. George maybe not so much. As our local DJ in DC, Howard helped me get thru 12/9/80 by listening to him on the radio that morning. He also saved my freshman year in college in 1980. I used to cut my 8am class if Howard was rolling, which was often.
It's gotta be the strangest thing, to see yourself as you were nearly sixty years ago on other people's clothing.
ReplyDeleteI thought the same thing -- but maybe Paul is used to it?
Deletenever liked HS
ReplyDeleteI know what you mean -- but Paul seems to be on friendly terms with him. Plus this is a great photo of him pointing at himself on his shirt.
