It's a drag.

December 9, 1980 --  I have to say that I agree with Paul McCartney.   It's a drag.

    1. I don't know if he was still in shock, or just speaking the truth. When my boyfriend died last year, I said that say, "Well this just sucks." It was how I was feeling and it was the truth. It was a drag that John was murdered. Today whenever anyone passes away, Paul has a nice statement ready to go to Twitter. But--nothing he says now will be has honest as when he said that John's death is a drag.

  2. He still receives a lot of online hate for this comment by people who don't have a great understanding of grief. He was being harassed by reporters wanting a deep and meaningful eulogy from him. Anybody with any sensitivity could see that he'd been crying.

  3. I agree with you Sara, it was certainly honest. It wasn't the greatest choice of words, but it was a very natural reaction. I think Paul did come to regret it though and that's why everything is so staged managed now.

  4. Later on, Paul said that he hated the fact that the media was hounding him, expecting him to come up with a dramatic, theatrical reaction to John's murder in order for them to make headlines and sell newspapers or whatever. So he rebelled against them by saying something that sounded curt. That was a tough time for Paul, because he was still in that period when the Rock Press still resented him for allegedly singlehandedly breaking up the Beatles. Which obviously wasnt true.

  6. Paul was NOT speaking the truth. I think alot of people - fans and non-fans alike - took it as a flip remark. I admit that I did at the time. But the poor guy just lost his life-long soulmate and was in a deep state of grief. He hadnt had the time to properly put his thoughts into words.

  7. Think the whole thing was an alliteration of the concept of being in the likeness of trans trimogular trioplier trimogleration. Simple as that.
