An online Beatles fan club for and about Beatle fans
Everyone is entitled to their own opinion,my opinion is that this was the most important and awesome rock star ever.
My opinion also. Fucked up, at times cruel, at times misguided, but nobody in rock compares to his talent before or since.
What's with all of this sudden negativity towards John on this site? Is this the same commentator as the last negative one?
I was wondering that too. I approve just about all comments because I do believe in freedom on speech, but wow --- what is with all the hate towards my main man, John?
not hate - just that he was far from the perfection that we'd all like to believe
To criticise John's aggression is not hate. If he were alive today, even he would be taken aback with some of the defensive reactions here.
One redeemable quality he had was his honesty. He told us ALL how rotten he could be, but also how wrong he could be. He wanted us to know he could be wrong and see the err of his ways and was always trying to do better. He was not much to out right apologize but more so he publicly admitted to human faults bad temper, etc.by doing so he let us know he was flawed just like anyone else. That he felt bad and wanted to change many of his ways. Isnt that one of the great things about him? He was ALWAYS evolving! And if he wasn't perfect he was always trying for a better way.
Heck, this is outright praise compared to what I’ve read elsewhere on the net. When he died, he was immediately elevated to a saintly status he could never have had if he had not been murdered. 40 years later and his image has really taken a hit. I’ve read a LOT of commentary along the lines of what a “wife beating, self-righteous, drug addled, p***y whipped ass” he was. Neither view is particularly accurate, but the latter seems to be gaining traction. It isn’t all just Yoko fallout either, though that’s certainly part of it. As an aside, anyone out there see “John & Yoko - Above Us Only Sky” on TV? Think it was on A&E about the making of Imagine. Thoughts?
Loved the Above us only sky thing. To this day it's the only film I have seen that was completely fair to Yoko. I was extremely touched when she spoke of her little brother being hungry and how she helped him cope.I feel that if John loved her that's enough for me.
John has been gone a very, very long time now and people are forgetting how great and influential he was. He is portrayed as you all stated as above. As a kid growing up in the late sixties and seventies he was a very huge influence. Sure he had shortcomings , who doesn't. Would have loved to see how he would have evolved as he got older.
