I remember when this photo first came out (possibly People Magazine. ?) The photo I saw had the Boyles completely cut out of the photo. Thanks for posting the entire photo. And, yes, I also read that John was very angry about the photo being taken.(MarkZapp)
I remember it well and in People magazine too, Mark. It was like “huh? John Lennon? What’s he been up to?” Then hearing “Starting Over” on the radio and getting my answer. Then he was gone...
Hi Anon. John was reputedly peeved because he didn’t want to be photographed at the time and the place the photo was taken was a hotspot to be seen (and photographed). I think John felt duped by Peter as he felt Peter brought them there almost purposely so they could be photographed together.
Evidently when they got back to the house John really threw a tantrum and made Peter pay for it with his ego. Got everybody wound up then let them off the hook as if it were kind of a joke . As if to say "I know what you did and you knew I didn't want it now you're gonna hear some shit." Point made, don't do that again.
John could be quite hateful and paranoid. He accused Boyle of wanting to take advantage of his former Beatle fame by taking him to a restaurant where he knew they would be photographed.
Evidently John was really pissed about this photo having been taken.
ReplyDeleteWhen the Boyles got married in 1977, John was best man at their wedding. Lennon and Boyle met through Boyle's wife, who was friends with Yoko.
ReplyDeleteBoyle was a great actor - rip
