Jane's U.S. tour

In 1967 Jane Asher toured the United States with the Old Vic theater in Romeo and Juliet.    Many fans went to see Ms. Asher portray Juliet, not because they were great fans of Shakespear or even of Jane, but to see Paul McCartney's girlfriend in person.

I am at the point in my writing and research that I am looking for fans that saw or met Jane during this tour and have any memories to share about it.

  1. I had the honor of seeing Jane Asher as Juliette in ROMEO AND JULIETTE at the Geary Theatre in San Franciso with the British Old Vic in April 1967 just before Jane turned 21 when the Company performed in Denver and Paul McCartney came to share her birthday. I was thrilled to meet Jane that Saturday in April 1967 when she arrived at the theater. She was so kind and signed my Old Vic program. The audience was filled with fans who screamed when she took a bow and she had to run to her hotel at Geary and Mason. I took photos of her when she took her bows and mailed these Kodak snap shots to her a few years ago in England. She was so kind and responded with a signed photo that I treasure. Prior to her 1967 Tour with the Old Vic I had written to her in England and she sent me a signed photo. That was 2 yrs before she toured with the Old Vic. Obviously I was thrilled beyond measure to receive that photo!
