50 years ago today---April 14, 1966 The Beatles recorded one of my favorite Beatles tracks--Paperback Writer. Luckily for us Beatle Book Monthly was there to document this session and we are blessed with amazing photographs (including this great one of John) from the sessions.
On the piano in the back ground is the Stones album "Aftermath" which was released to the public on April 15th, the day after this photo was taken.
ReplyDeleteOn this day they finished the vocals for Paperback Writer and then John recorded the distorted guitar part on his Gretsch Nashville guitar for "Rain", which seems to be the only guitars recorded that day, and looks like the guitar John is playing in the photo.
ReplyDelete... just noticed that John is about to press the button on his distortion pedal with his left hand so I definitely think he`s about to record the guitar part for Rain. They began the Rain session just after 8pm and finished at 1.30am.
ReplyDeleteInteresting comments Jonathan. Sara I remember when Paperback Writer came out and was playing on the radio. It was am radio in those days and the single played on the radio was the mono version with the echo on it.
