AN AWARD FROM AUGUST 1966 PRESENTED TO THE BEATLES FROM THE RADIO SHOW "BATTLE OF THE GIANTS" WHICH AIRED ON RADIO LUXEMBOURG. BATTLE OF THE GIANTS WAS A RADIO SHOW WHICH AIRED POPULAR MUSIC OF THE TIME IN WHICH LISTENERS OF THE SHOW WOULD CALL IN AND VOTE FOR THE SONGS AND MUSICIANS THEY LIKED BEST, AT THE END OF A PERIOD OF TIME THE MUSICIAN OR GROUP WITH THE MOST VOTES WOULD BE CROWNED THE WINNER OF THE BATTLE OF THE GIANTS. THE SHOW WAS SPONSORED BY THE PETROLEUM COMPANY NATIONAL (BENZOLE). THE AWARD MEASURES 11 1/2 INCHES AND FEATURES THE NATIONAL (BENZOLE) LOGO "MR MERCURY" IN RELEIF ON A GILT METAL DISK ATOP A WOODEN BASE WITH A CIRCULAR BRASS PLAQUE WHICH READS "AWARDED TO THE BEATLES, AUGUST 1966". AWARDS LIKE THIS PRESENTED TO THE BEATLES ARE VERY RARE AND SOUGHT AFTER. THE AWARD WAS ORIGINALLY PART OF A CHRISTIES AUCTION HELD IN 1994, SALE #6496, LOT #62.
