Sigourney Weaver meet the Beatles

Much thanks to Michael for sending this story along.

Aliens actress, Sigourney Weaver talked the other night on the Jimmy Fallon show about when she saw the Beatles at the Hollywood Bowl.    She said that it was in 1962, which we all know is impossible, but we can forgive her for that mistake.   Most likely it was 1964 and her family had just moved to California and so, since she had made any friends, she went to the Beatles concert alone at the age of 12.    After the concert, she and another girl were walking up a hill, still in awe of seeing the Beatles perform when they spot a limo coming up the road.   To Sigourney's amazement, it was the Beatles' car!   And John waved to her, and Paul did a head shake and Ringo waved!    And afterwards she had to go home and lay down for "48 hours" because such an amazing thing happened!

She recently got a letter from the Hollywood Bowl, although I wouldn't be shocked if it was from Ron Howard's people who are putting together the Beatles live film, asked if she had seen the Beatles at the Hollywood Bowl because they had found footage of her!    And low and behold....it was her!   What are the chances of that???  On the Jimmy Fallon show, they showed the footage of a 12 year old Sigourney, with the hair that she wore over night in beer cans to get the perfect look that would impress John screaming out "John!" with some other Beatle fans.   What fun!

  1. Sigourney Weaver was born in October 1949, which would have made her 14 (almost 15) at the time of the 1964 Hollywood Bowl concert (which took place on August 23rd). If she was thinking it was 1962, then yes, she would have been 12, going on 13. But in 1964, at the time of the Hollywood Bowl concert, she was 14.

    1. Well then I guess she was 14---somehow I just think it was 1964 when she saw the Beatles.

  2. I definitely think it was the 1964 Hollywood Bowl show -- and she looks 14 (nearly 15) in the photos, not as young as 12.

    1. You know, I always find it interesting how "non Beatle freaks" can get the dates mixed up and shrug it off. To you or me, the difference between 1962 and 1964 is HUGE. Of course they didn't play LA in 1962---they had just gotten Ringo as their drummer. But to others it is "close enough."

    2. Even Sigourney couldn't remember the year, though most people -- even the less-informed -- know that the Beatles' breakthrough year in this country (and the world, for that matter) was 1964. She thought the year was 1962 and that would have made her age of 12 correct. Unfortunately, she was off by two years, having seen the Beatles a couple of months before her 15th birthday. It's nitpicky, but Beatles fans like us are here to straighten out the facts.

  3. I agree, I think it's strange that she was off by two years and couldn't even remember how old she was. I mean the difference between 12 and almost 15 is huge and she couldn't remember her age? Not to mention the fact that in 1962 the Beatles had barely been out of Liverpool yet and didn't even make their first record until October. The idea of them playing at the Hollywood Bowl 6000 miles away is absurd.

  4. girls at that time used to roll their hair with soup cans or beer cans to make their hair look straighter with a bit of height - how far we've come!

  6. But it was Peggy Lipton who got to hookup with Paul after the Hollywood Bowl concerts in Aug. 1964 AND Aug. 1965. (she was 17, almost 18 in Aug. 1964) Facinating account in her book Breathing Out!
