An early Wings performance

Paul and Linda performing in Sheffield on July 4, 1973.    Who can tell me....what song did they perform in the summer of '73 with Paul on the piano?

    1. In my mind 1973 is an early performance.

    2. Yeah, both right. I have great memories of that tour. My first ever concert at 13 in Leicester. Birmingham was after Sheffield, then came Leicester. Fantastic views. He even acknowledged us because, in order to avoid the inevitable crush, we had stayed on the upper balcony while everyone else, save a few, ran downstairs. When Paul came out he looked up to see us waving frantically and said "Yeah, I see you too!"

    3. Dibo, what the heck are you talking about? A performance IS part of the first UK tour. Having trouble with English again? And yes, 1973 most definitely qualifies as an early Wings "performance", my gosh, the nits we pick! Look at you, capitalizing "NOT". Well, guess what DIBO, you are wrong, it IS an early performance. What do you think they're doing onstage? NOT performing? Do you understand the definition of the word "performance"? Anything from 72 and 73 is an "early Wings performance".

Dibo, maybe you just shouldn't comment. So snotty.

(Paul played piano on "My Love" and "Maybe I'm Amazed", Sara).

  2. I was at the Newcastle City Hall show on 10th July 1973... Wings performed the set shown above, plus one additional song. They finished with 'Long Tall Sally' after being joined on stage by the support act (Brinsley Schwarz).

  3. The first gig was Nottingham University. It was 50p to get in and Macca counted the takings that night. It was the first time he'd seen 'real' money in years.

    1. And Henry said it was all in coins so they walked out wit bulging pockets almost bursting. How fun it must have been for Paul who hadn't seen gig money since the early 60s!

  4. Also, Sara... without being pedantic about the first comment made about this being Wings first UK tour. It wasn't. The first announced tour, yes. However, between 9th February and 23rd February 1972 they played Nottingham, York, Hull, Newcastle, Lancaster, Leeds, Sheffield, Salford, Birmingham, Swansea and Oxford. Albeit unannounced. In my opinion, that still constitutes a UK tour.

  5. Wow---a bunch of comments about a title to a post that I just threw up there at the last moment. I meant "early" as in to me the first few years of Wings 1972-1973 were the bands' "early" period. Just like "Early Beatles" is 1962-1963. So if I posted a photo of the Beatles in 1963 and called it "early Beatles performance" that would be correct. I telly you--coming up with Titles to posts isn't the easiest thing in the world.

    2. If you are not sure you are easily formulated as a question?

      1973,early Performance and Where?

    3. Sheffield on July 4, 1973

The question was meant as a trivia question to get people talking about songs Paul played on the piano in concert in 1973. Instead people are talking about my definition of "early."

  6. Sara... ignore any negativity, you do a great job in providing us Beatles people with some rare photos and personal accounts of those who’ve met ‘the boys’. Keep it up!!!

That Dibo guy writes so aggressively. Maybe it's because he doesn't have a story to contribute...

  7. Dibo, I think you just don't understand the nuances of English.

And this sentence that you wrote: "If you are not sure you are easily formulated as a question?", it barely makes sense. In fact, it makes no sense.

  8. Love the picture and am curious, too - I'd always imagined all the "piano" songs were done on a Fender Rhodes. Can't tell, but is Linda on the Rhodes and Paul on the piano? The the existing bootlegs offer any clues...

And "early" is definitely the right word to use here. What on earth is wrong with people?
