Ringo's early years of peace

I was quite surprised to see Richy here with a peace sign badge on his jacket.   I did not know that badges were popular in the early 1960's, much less peace sign ones.   Is this something someone photoshopped onto this photo later?    Anyone have any information about this one?  I will go look at the Savage Young Beatles for some information.

  1. It is the CND logo, designed in 1958. It only became known as the peace sign later.

Still amazing, a to me unseen photo of early Ringo (and at least one Hurricane to the right I think) and the fact that he is making a political statement here.
All very well dressed - what might have been the occasion?

  2. It's probably real, the symbol was created in 1958 and became very popular in the UK almost straight away, badges being the most popular option for wearing it. I remember my dad telling me how it seemed almost everyone started wearing them around '59.
    Lovely picture!

  3. Maybe it was a badge from the Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament which would have been active then. Cool!

I'll bet I'm wrong but to my eyes, it looks a little to "clear", as if someone photo-shopped it in ("peace and love, peace and love"!).

But.........I could be (and probably am) wrong! I agree with you that buttons weren't normally seen as they would a few years later so that (to me) is another brick in the wall!
