It's a soup bowl on George's head. Knowing their humour, he probably put it there. On the way this gig in Wigan their car had broken down and they were running late so only had time for soup before going on. The manager of the ABC provided other comforts though like a TV and more food, a luxury not common for stars back in 1964.
