The Core of the Apple

These photos show the Beatles along with Stanley Gortikov sometime during the month of August (when they weren't recording the White Album or Hey Jude) of 1968.   They are sitting around the table to sign the contract that allows Apple records to be sold in the United States.   Paul appears to be wearing a similar shirt as the one he wore when he announced his break up with Jane the previous month.

If you like these photos, they are up on ebay right now and you can still bid on them!

  1. His name is actually Stan Gortikov, not Gortigov. He was president of Capitol Records from 1968 to 1969 and president and chief executive of Capitol Industries, the record label's corporate parent, from 1969 to 1971.

    2. Glad to help, Sara. Nice seeing you again at the fest last weekend. (You'd walked up to Chuck Gunderson's table, where I was sitting. As you know, he's about to publish his massive two-volume book on the Beatles' three North American tours, which I edited.) Keep up the great work on your blog. Like I told you, I check it every day!

    3. It was good seeing you again as well. I had a fun time at the Fest. I would really like to go to the New York one this year for the 50th anniversary. Keep looking for my typing and spelling mistakes. I make a lot of them. :)

    5. I can't say for sure, but I would guess that I would be on the women's panel in New York. It is just so expensive to go, plus I would have to hope I would be approved of the personal days off school.

If I had more guts I would beg Mark Lapidos to let me have a "Meet the Beatles for Real" discussion at the Fest. I could show some photos and share some about this blog and then open it up so fan could tell their stories of meeting the Beatles. That is my dream.
