The Heights

This adorable photo of Ringo, Maureen, Zak and their puppy dog standing in the doorway of Sunny Heights must have been taken by Harry Grossman because there were many of his photographs taken at Ringo's home with Ringo and and Maureen wearing those exactly clothes.  (update in comments section)

What I think about when I see this photo is that this is what it would have been like if you knocked on Ringo's door in 1967.   I just love seeing the Beatles at their homes.

  1. I can't find a photo credit with any of the published photos from this set identifying the photographer. In Henry Grossman's photos taken of Ringo at Sunny Heights near this same time Ringo is wearing dark pants and a yellow vest trimmed with fur over a print shirt. None of the photos from the set of Ringo, Maureen, Zak & Tiger are included in Henry Grossman's book. Maybe he held something back for later? - but it does seem like he would have included some of these wonderful photos in his book if they were his.

    1. Lynn,
I could be wrong about this. But I have other photos from the inside of the house of just Ringo (not Maureen or Zak) that I could have sworn I saw credit given to Grossman. I also thought that it was a whole photo shoot and Ringo wore that fur vest in some photos and the green vest (seen here) in others. But if none of the photos of Ringo in the green vest are in the fancy expensive book (which I don't have), then maybe I am totally off my rocker and incorrect in my thinking?

  2. Hi Sara, I also have photos of Ringo in the green vest taken inside the house without Mo or Zak. Datebook published several of those, but no photographer credit that I can find. What makes me think they could be Grossman's is that in LIFE mag and Time mag articles from '67 and '68 the shots with Maureen are published beside Grossman's photos of the other Beatles couples. It certainly makes sense and they like Grossman's style. I can't imagine why Grossman would leave the Ringo, Mo & Zak photos out his book though? The two shoots must have been very close together in August 1967. Did you get the People mag issue with the Grossman photos? There is one of Ringo in color with Tiger outside at Sunny Heights. He is wearing these same clothes (yellowish fur trimmed vest, white/blue print shirt and dark red pants) in all the photos (30 pages) in Grossman's book. Gerald Scarfe is in a few of them too, but none of Mo or Zak. None of the green vest photos are in Grossman's book.

  3. Hi Sara, Success at last! I found the full page from Time magazine (Sept. 22, 1967 issue) with the Beatles couples photos. The Ringo, Mo & Zak at Sunny Heights photo has a photographer credit: "JOHN KELLY - KEYSTONE". The other three Beatles couples photos on the page are by Henry Grossman. Mystery solved! - presumedly John Kelly took all the Sunny Heights photos with Ringo in the green vest.

    1. Wonderful information Lynn! Thank you so much. No wonder I thought Grossman took the photo since he took the other ones in the Life and Time magazine articles. I will have to change my information. Thanks again.
