Beatles and Branding irons
These girls from the Dallas, Texas fan club presented the Beatles with branding irons during the Los Angeles press conference in 1966. In many other photos of the Beatles during this photo session after the p.c., you can see the Beatles holding branding irons. This is the reason why!

Wrong, Sara. Stephanie, Yolanda and Debbie were officers of the Dallas branch of the National Beatles Fan Club. Stephanie and Yolanda were co-presidents and Debbie (Stephanie's sister) was a vice president. The story's been told before on your site (I told it!), but they'd met the Beatles in their hotel room in Dallas two years earlier and spent about 3-1/2 hours with them. While in Dallas, the girls also presented the Boys with black Stetson cowboy hats (which you see them wearing in photos taken the following day at the Pigman Ranch in Alton, Missouri). After their Dallas experience, the girls followed the group around the country, seeing various shows on all three American tours and always wearing the same kind of black Stetson hats they'd given the group. This way, they hoped, the band would spot them in the audience. In 1966, they were allowed to attend the L.A. press conference (at the Capitol Record building) and present them with branding irons that sported each member's initials. This was done just after the press conference and just before the band was presented their gold record award for "Revolver". Video footage also exists of the girls with the group at this event.
ReplyDeleteSo the only thing I got wrong was that it was Dallas and not Houston? And I got that mixed up because they met the Beatles in Dallas the first time. Not too bad going on memory at almost midnight!
ReplyDeleteThere's David Crosby in the last pic
ReplyDeleteThanks for clearing that up. All this time I thought Paul was holding a big key and I wondered why!
ReplyDeleteHi Everybody, Yolanda is actually my aunt! She only attended two concerts, the one in dallas and the one in LA. She just published her story here, check it out! http://www.elegantislandliving.net/ssi-archives/sharing-a-coke-and-a-smile-with-the-fab-four/
