I think this is funny, cute and strange all at the same time! I guess a radio station in the New York area held a Beatles look-alike contest in 1968, and here are the winners for John and Ringo. When my mom was a teenager, her nickname was "Ringo" because she loved Ringo Starr and supposedly looked like him. I have seen lots of photos of my mom when she was a teen and have never thought "wow my mom looks like Ringo." But maybe she should have entered this contest back then!
Hi, My name is Madeleine. The radio station was WABC and as well as the winners they had a lot of runners-up--I think 250 for each Beatle--and I was one of them. I really don't look like any of The Beatles at all but my hair was short at the time in a style called a long shag and maybe looked slightly like a Beatle haircut. I got to go to a special screening of "Yellow Submarine" at the Victoria Theatre in New York City. The famous DJ Cousin Brucie was there. I didn't know any other Beatle fans and as you could bring a guest I brought a girl from school. I met the girl behind me in line and we began corresponding. It was from there that I discovered the network of Beatle fans and started writing to lots of them. Some are still good friends today. :)
