Here's to you!

There is a story in Carol Bedford's book, Waiting for the Beatles that I believe go along with these photos of George. (thetop one does for sure!) In the book, Carol is basically complaining about an American fan named Alfie who is very thin and beautiful and is extremely obvious about her feelings for George. Carol, of course, does not like sharing George with an "outsider" and is angry about how Alfie shows her affection to George and how George reacts.

It was a cold winter night. George came out of Trident Studios and into the garage. He was wearing his black Mongolian fur coat. Alfie grabbed, physically. She had champagne and invited him to have a farewell drink with her. he agreed. After several quick drinks, George was pleasantly mellow. Aflie kissed him and had one of the girls take pictures to prove it! I was outraged at this exhibition and jealous that I had not thought of it myself. Everyone, including Lucy and Margo, had the pictures of Alfie and George. Alfie made sure they go copies of these photos, so everyone could see and know that she and George were "meant for each other."

  1. I know Alfie, she's a very nice girl. Yes, that did happen and I have seen the photos - I may even have them, not sure.

  2. For years I have wondered why George was in the middle of the street with a glass of champagne. I was glad to get the background story to solve that mystery. Way to go Alfie!

  3. Great photos and story.

Is the date of the photos known?

I assume Feb 1969 -- since he was at Trident means he was most likely working on "I Want You (She's So Heavy)" for Abbey Rd.

  5. didn't this take place at Trident at the conclusion of recording All Things Must Pass?

  6. I wondered that too but "All Things Must Pass" was mostly recorded at AR May to August 1970 with more mixing and recording at Trident Aug to Sept.

And he looks a little thinner here -- Id say late Beatles.

  10. George was a bit of a one with the ladies, I get the impression. Not sure though if he was ever entirely happy with his marriages. To be honest his astrological personality made him almost princely or aristocratic personae, he would have been looking for a partner who could match that, and not sure if he ever did.

  11. I knew Alfie in the late 60's and she was a terrific person who really cared for George. To be honest, I thought she'd be a good wife for him.
