Lizze and Gayleen on the One Show

Way before I actually had the chance to "talk" to Lizzie Bravo here online, I was fascinated by the story of how she and Gayleen were chosen to sing the background one "Across the Universe." I remember thinking after I first heard their story, "Oh my goodness...that could have been me!" I am a singer and I am sure that if I had been outside that day and was asked who can hold a high note, I would have jumped up and said, "me sir! me sir!" And then move over Lizzie and hello Sara! hahahaha! But really it is so neat because it is something Beatle fans DREAM about and it really happened to two of our very own. Lizzie and Gayleen weren't musicians. They were fans who were fortunately enough to be there and get the amazing once in a lifetime opportunity to sing with the Beatles on a really awesome song!

Lizzie emailed me this link to of her and Gayleen's recent interview with the One show in England. I really love it! Check out the awesome fan photos that are shown! And see the love and excitement these two ladies still share when talking about The Beatles.

Thanks Lizzie and Gayleen for allowing us to live through your experience once again. Wishing you both all the best. From Sara....the 2nd gen fan in Illinois.

  2. That was wonderful! Great to hear the story first hand and to see the love in the women's eyes as they speak about the boys. Lizzie, you're writing a book, aren't you? When will it be out?

  6. the only downside is people are still calling us groupies, which none of us were. i wish they would check their online dictionaries and find out the difference between a groupie and a fan!

  7. Today "groupie" implicates sexual interest but I wonder if the word always had this meaning or how long was it around.

Anyway, great clip! In the studio it looked like your vocal track would be isolated for you to sing along but one actually seems to hear the full song. I wonder: were you able to listen to the original 4-track to hear your voices stand alone?

  9. I love this quote from the movie Almost famous :)
"We are not Groupies. Groupies sleep with rockstars because they want to be near someone famous. We are here because of the music, we inspire the music. We are Band Aids."

  10. hi ken, the bbc did ask for permission from apple or whoever it is who gives those permissions to isolate the track, but it wasn't ready in time so what we heard that day was the original version. i was kind of caught off guard, as we had agreed we wouldn't sing, so when she asked us to sing i was kind of hesitant, though i can still hit those notes.

  11. hi anonymous, i saw ringo at one of the grammy's in new york where i went with my brazilian musician friend (and boss at the time) milton nascimento who was one of the nominees. ringo was standing right beside us talking to a man. i am normally quite shy, but thought that might be the last time i see this man so close by in this lifetime, so i approached him after he was finished talking to the man and introduced myself. i asked him if he remembered that 2 fans once sang with them at emi and he said no but he asked if that was me and said good for you. he was nice. i was a guest of the producers for george's 1992 concert at the albert hall and went to a party for him backstage afterwards. he had just come offstage and was obviously quite moved by it all, but he passed by me and i thanked him for the wonderful music and asked him the same question. i don't remember how he said it, but he didn't remember. he did shake my hand and was very nice. my timing for the question wasn't very good, but, again, i didn't know if i would ever see him again. as for paul, i went to a very small press conference to announce his brazilian tour backstage at the venue for his concert in indianapolis, indiana, i believe it was 2/15/1990 and at the end he shook everybody's hand (there were less than 10 people in the room with him) and when it came to me he asked why did he remember me and i told him because i sang with him in the same microphone. he remembered immediately and we had a short conversation - which i have on tape. i also have a photo of us from that moment, but it was taken by his photographer and mpl sent it to emi in rio and my friend who worked there gave it to me, so i can't really share it for copyright reasons.

  12. ken, i'm not sure if the word groupie was around in the 60's or not... it might have been a little later. and ayaanna, that is a nice quote. i saw that movie but don't remember that scene, thanks for mentioning it.

  14. Thanks Lizzie for elaborating and sharing your stories with us!
In fact I just recalled that in the video you are telling the story of how each of you got to share the mic with one Beatle if I got that right, so a isolated vocal track would actually still be the Beatles and you two girls singing. Interlocked on tape forever!
