John jumps the wall

I have posted this before and it led to a conversation in the comments section that basically didn't have any exact answers. Well I got the magazine that it originally came from and was able to scan the photos so that they are much larger now. I still am not sure WHY John is seen here jumping the wall of Cavendish. The story that went near the photos tells about the time that it was Paul and Linda's anniversary and Paul didn't show up for a booked recording session. John was really mad and went over to Paul's house to give him a piece of his mind. However... the article does not claim that these photos are from that day. The caption for the photos make you think they are from that day. Unless there was another altercation with John and Paul during the recording of "Abbey Road" They are interesting photographs regardless.

Judging by John & Yoko's appearance, these photos look like they were taken during the Get Back period - January-February 1969 - rather than the summer Abbey Road sessions. As to whether there was a fracas, surely this is journalistic license? John might have been merely trying to get Paul's attention inside the house because Paul was refusing to answer the intercom because of the fans that were always hanging around.

  3. Yeah, I think the book that had this story (Blackbird?) puts this around the recording time for Abbey Road. Well, Abbey Road actually started only short while after Let It Be even though the bulk of it was recorded during the summer. This one indeed looks like early 1969 (the trees got no leaves either). So it still could be the one occasion, just a bit off timewise.
Anyway, the question I have is: what would be Paul`s and Linda`s anniversary? They met first for the Pepper party or the Speakeasy Club (May 1967) but it is unknown if they already started their affair then. Then again in NYC (May 1968) - I would mark this as the start of their relationship. In September 1968 Paul called her to come over to the UK.

  4. Paul met Linda at the Bag O" Nails club May 15, 1967. On that date in 1968, he was in NYC promoting Apple with John...and staying with Linda Eastman? Coincidence?
Nonetheless, I think they might consider May 15 their anniversary. Would London trees be bare in mid-May? Just speculating.

The pic was definitely taken the early month(s) of 1969 - possibly February because it looks like (hard to see properly) John is growing a beard. He had grown it by the time of the March 2 Cambridge concert. He wore Yoko's fur coat a lot around this time - rooftop concert, etc. As for when the "anniversary" argument occurred, it may well have been May 1969, during the warm summer Abbey Road sessions, including the much documented confrontation at Olympic Studios. However, on May 15, according to Mark Lewisohn's Beatles Chronicle, Paul was visiting family in Liverpool.

  8. The brick story is another one - again I think I read that in Blackbird - anyway, it goes something like this: During or shortly after the court-trial Paul started to get out of the Beatles John, George and Ringo got very annoyed with him and they got in a car to drive to Paul´s house where John climbed over the gate/wall, opened it from the inside then rushed to the car, took two brand-new bricks from the trunk and threw them into the windows of Paul´s house. Somehow the story always seemed a bit unbelievable to me. Not that I don`t think John wouldn`t be capable of this but the fact that it has never been spoken about or reported otherwise than in this (these?) book(s) that doesn`t (don`t) have the best reputation.

  9. As far as I know, none of the girls in the photo are a part of what became the Apple Scruffs. I remember the name of two of them. Will check with the girls and find out the other two and post all the names here.

Geofrey Giulliano wrote about that, but he is well-known liar...

  11. Little Sue (short dark hair) and Eileen (longer dark hair). Vaguely remember the other two but I don't think they were "regulars". None of them became Scruffs.

  12. Just for the record these two photos were publish and scanned from the October 1996 issue of Mojo magazine (pg. 71). The magazine put the caption on the photo. No photo credit was given in the magazine. Although the caption next to a few other photos says "scuff taken snaps." And the magazine interviews Wendy, Nancy and Gill. So I assumed the photos belong to one of those ladies. I am being accused of "stealing" photos and it bothers me. So I want to make sure this is clear.

  15. Just amused at all the comments....either way, I just surprised that John was that agile to literally climb over the gates...LOL He never did strike me as even 'faux-athletic'

  16. remember hearing that Paul wasn't answering intercom and John climbed the wall determined to see him

  17. These pictures are amazing. It lends a lt more credence to the story of John climbing over Paul's wall to throw bricks at his house!
Come on girls, any other info? none of the girls who were there?
