I am still trying to figure out when John and Yoko were in Chicago in the early 1970's. But these great fan photos are currently on ebay and from that trip. I really am glad that I found these!
i just love these photos! i have some from that day, they might be different.
ReplyDeleteThanks for posting this. I am a really big Beatles/Lennon fan and a proud Chicagoan so naturally I am always interested in digging up quotes, photos, etc about the Beatles in Chicago. As you can imagine there isn't a lot out there. In fact until this I wasn't sure if any of the Beatles had been to Chicago other than in and out for performances. The only quote ive seen (that I remember) is a radio interview before the Comiskey park shows and it was basically Someone asking them what they thought about Chicagoans and John responded that it didn't look any different than everywhere else they'd been in America.
ReplyDeleteSo it's good to see John willingly visited Chicago post Beatles. Just wish I knew when and why. Also wish I knew the hotel or whatever those photos were taken. An educated guess would be somewhere in Gold Coast or on Michigan Ave. Thanks again!
Hi Tony!
ReplyDeleteI am not a Chicagoan, but I am an Illinoisan, (you know..the other part of the state? haha). I actually live very close to St. Louis, Missouri. But I do visit Chicago at least once a year for Beatlefest! So I am also interested in when a Beatle has been in my state. I keep trying to figure out when and why J&Y where in Chicago, but I haven't gotten any leads. If I figure anything out, I will keep you posted.
hi there! i have 14 photos from this moment. in one of them it says "chicago, may 1972, sharon u.". which means sharon took them, or at least some of them. i remember a sharon with a last name starting with a u, but i can't remember her last name now. hope this helps!
ReplyDeleteThank you for your responses guys! I did a little bit of searching first with that May 1972 date from Lizzie. I couldn't really find anything conclusive, but the best thing I found was that John Lennon did an interview with a Chicago radio station sometime in 1972 (no date was given except the year), about immigration and marijuana (the immigration stuff really intensified in April 1972). Was it common to do a radio show from another city over the phone as it is now, or does it seem more likely that he flew to Chicago for the interview? I am guessing this is most likely why he was in Chicago.
ReplyDeleteLet me know if you guys find anything else! The link for my finding: http://homepage.ntlworld.com/carousel/pob03.html
