This photo was definitely taken at a press conference at the Capitol Records building in Hollywood in August 1966. The press conference had just ended and they brought up on stage three officers from the Dallas chapter of the official Beatles Fan Club to make a presentation to the group. The girls are, from left to right: Debbie Pinter (talking to Ringo), Stephanie Pinter (talking to John) and Yolanda Hernandez (talking to George). Stephanie and Yolanda were co-presidents of the Dallas fan club and Debbie was a vice-president. Notice how the girls are wearing black cowboy hats. These same girls had presented black cowboy hats to the group in Dallas on September 18, 1964. These are the hats you see The Beatles wearing in the well-known "riding horses" photos from the Pigman Ranch in Missouri (which is where they went for a rest day immediately after playing the Dallas concert). Just before this photo was taken, the girls presented each Beatle with a personalized branding bearing his first and last initials. Cowboy hats and branding irons! A true Texas gesture! The Beatles were then presented with gold records for the "Revolver" LP. There is a large blowup of the "Revolver" cover behind those red curtains.
I enjoyed reading about it as well, Mark. I have seen those girls in the cowboy hats in other photos from the 1966 L.A. press conference and wondered who they were. It is always nice to put a name to the face of a fan. Thanks for sharing. That is the main thing I LOVE about this blog. People come and share the information they have. Sara.
Thanks Sara! I actually know Stephanie and have met her sister Debbie as well. Stephanie and Yolanda met the Beatles in their Dallas hotel room (The Cabana Motor Inn) when they were in town for their concert on September 18, 1964. They spent about 2-1/2 hours with them (along with reporters, etc.) right after they arrived at the hotel. Stephanie got the signatures of all four Beatles PLUS Brian Epstein (who'd arranged the meeting) on a piece of hotel stationery. In 1992, I bought the autograph set from Stephanie. On top of that, there's a photo of Stephanie and Yolanda posed with the Beatles in the room that night -- and, in the photo, Stephanie's holding the autographs! One of my most treasured pieces because it was signed when they were here in Dallas -- my hometown. In my 40 years as a collector, I've never seen another authentic set signed when they were here! Anyway, Stephanie and Yolanda went to several other concerts in 1965 and 1966, always wearing their own black cowboy hats so the Boys would hopefully spot them in the concert audience. They managed to get into the '66 press conference because it was pre-arranged. They had those branding irons to give them. I guess they figured it'd make a good photo op so they allowed it. I have several photos with the girls and the Beatles from this '66 press conference. Stephanie let me make copies. I didn't have this one though -- plus it was in color when mine are black and white! Nice to see this one! Take care and thanks again!
