Sgt. Pepper era

I LOVE this fan's haircut. I think I might try to get my hair to look a little more like that. It is simliar right now, but I think I might get it to work! Alright Ringo fan!!!

Hey! Is that Lizzie in the background there? I never noticed anyone behind Paul before....

What does John have here? A magazine???

I was looking through my collection of Sgt. Pepper photos tonight and I was especially enjoying the ones that were taken by the fans outside of the studio. I am sure that I have posted these before and maybe even more than once, but I figured that since I enjoyed looking at them again, you all might enjoy it as well.

  1. good morning all! photo #1, can't remember that fan's name; #2 if i'm not mistaken, that's carol, she's a george fan, her sister linda is a ringo fan - i've been looking for them for years with no luck; #3 everyone says that's me and it probably is - i guess i'm chewing on my hand watching john come out of the car - but for some reason i don't recognize myself; #5 that's my friend maureen.

  2. I am not totally convinced that is you in the photo of Paul, Lizzie but I think it might be. Good luck in your search in finding Carol and Linda. I have been looking for two college friends for the past 15 years without any luck myself....it is very discouaging!

  3. hi sara! i wrote to all my friends who knew me at the time and enclosed the photo and they all wrote back saying it is definitely me. i actually have a very good quality 8x10 of it that paul wane from tracks sent me a few years back. as for carol and linda, my main problem is i used to know linda as "linda ringo", so it's a little hard to look for her on the internet... i used her married name and her family name but have come up with nothing so far. maybe she remarried. i hope she gets a facebook account and looks for me there. i have found several people that way.

  4. Hey there. John is holding an LP record under his arm in that photo--the record is a 1966 compilation of then-contemporary avant-garde electronic music, published by Vox Turnabout. You can see a picture of it here:

This photo is particularly interesting to me because it illuminates the connection between John and specific individuals in avant-garde music of the time (and since John was never much for dropping names, information like that is rare). Lizzie, do you know when this photo was taken? Do you think it was before or after he met Yoko?

  6. drasil- great research. I wonder if he brought the album for the others to hear or was given it by perhaps Paul or G. Martin. How did you recognize the cover? Do you know this recording?

  7. also, based on clothing, this was the night the recorded overdubs for 'Lovely Rita' (David Crosby was there)0 and is dated Feb 24th by Lewisohn and Feb 22nd by Winn. Lizzie, you could probably definitively date this event, perhaps

  9. that is great research, drasil ^_^ super cool

John met Yoko in 1966 but I'm not sure how close they were yet

  10. Yoko started showing up at the studio when they were recording "Fool on the Hill." So in Feb. 1967, Yoko was not around. However John met her in November 1966 and was interested in avant stuff.

  11. Hey everyone. I recognized the record from my own collection; it's the first in a series of three, all of which have similarly striking, contemporary art-style covers.

The reason I asked Lizzie when the photo was taken was to circumstantially set an latest possible date that John might have been listening to music of the sort that's on the record. I'm aware that John met Yoko in November 1966, and following that, as far as I know, this is the second piece of hard evidence in existence linking him to the avant-garde of the time.

So, thank you, Lizzie, for getting Lynda's photo out there and especially thank you, Sara, for having such a rad blog.
